HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Merrimack rookie Justin Gill scored twice in a split series with No. 14 Boston College, extending his goal scoring streak to six straight, the longest such streak in the NCAA this season. He now has at least one point in each of his last 11 games dating back to Dec. 13 (8g, 8a), which is the longest streak in Hockey East and the third-longest in the country.

UConn’s Tyler Muszelik posted the first 50-save game in Hockey East play since 2023 as the senior goalie kicked out 50 shots in a 3-3 draw at Maine on Saturday night. The performance came on the heels of a 32-save shutout the day before. The five points in league play lifted the Huskies into sole possession of second place in the Hockey East Army ROTC Standings.

Northeastern ended Providence’s nine-game winning streak with a 4-2 win on Friday night. Husky rookie Giacomo Martino scored a power-play goal and added an assist in the win as part of a four-point week, while classmate Jacob Mathieu scored the game-winning goal. NU goalie Lawton Zacher made 102 saves in three starts.

UMass Lowell swept a two-game set at Vermont and vaulted into eighth place in the Hockey East table powered by four points from Chris Delaney. River Hawks’ netminder Samuel Richard made 33 saves Friday before stopping 24 the next night, finishing the weekend with a 2.00 GAA and .934 save percentage.

James Hagens - Boston College

James Hagens (So., F; Hauppauge, N.Y.) tied for the national lead with five points last week, finishing with two goals and three assists. Hagens had two assists as BC defeated BU on Monday to win the Beanpot, including on the game-winning goal, and was named tournament MVP. The sophomore also scored in both games over a split weekend against Merrimack.


PRO AMBITIONS CO-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

Justin Gill - Merrimack

Justin Gill (Fr., F; St-Joseph-du-Lac, Que.) scored twice this weekend in a split series with No. 14 Boston College, extending his goal scoring streak to six straight, the longest such streak in the NCAA this season. He now has at least one point in each of his last 11 games dating back to Dec. 13 (8g, 8a), which is the longest streak in Hockey East and the third-longest in the country.

Giacomo Martino (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) led all Hockey East rookies with four points (1g, 3a) in a split weekend at No. 7 Providence. He tallied his sixth power-play goal of the season and added an assist in a 4-2 upset over the Friars. He now ranks in the top four among all Hockey East freshmen in goals, assists, and points and is tied for first among all rookies with four power-play goals in conference play and tied for second overall in Hockey East.

Nate Misskey - UMass Lowell

Nate Misskey (Fr., D; Melfort, Sask.) scored twice in Saturday’s 5-2 win to finish the weekend with two points, while also finishing the series with a plus-four rating and four blocked shots. His efforts helped UMass Lowell to a sweep at Vermont and into eighth place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Tyler Muszelik - UConn

Tyler Muszelik (Sr., G; Long Valley, N.J.) finished the weekend with a 1-0-1 record on the road against Maine. The senior made 82 saves with a .965 save percentage and a 1.44 goals against average, including a 32-save shutout on Friday and the first 50-save game in Hockey East play since 2023 in Saturday’s 3-3 tie.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Oscar Hemming, BC (Fr., F; Vaasa, Finland) Scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday, netting with the game-winning goal with 36 seconds remaining in BC’s win over Merrimack. He also tallied an assist on Friday night.

Lukas Gustafsson, BC (Sr., D; Atlanta, Ga.) Finished with three points on one goal and two assists on Monday on BC’s 6-2 victory over BU to win the Beanpot.

Louka Cloutier, BC (Fr., G; Sherbrooke, Que.) Went 2-1-0 over three games. He posted a 27-save performance to help lead BC to a victory over BU in the Beanpot Championship.

Brandon Svoboda, BU (So., F; Pittsburgh, Pa.) Scored a goal in two of the Terriers’ three games this week, including the opening goal in the Beanpot final and the first goal of Saturday’s 5-3 win. Svoboda also recorded an assist on Saturday for three points.

Jack Murtagh, BU (Fr., F; East Greenbush, N.Y.) Potted a goal and added an assist in Saturday’s 5-3 win over UNH.

Cole Hutson, BU (So., D; Chicago, Ill.) Notched a goal and an assist on Saturday against UNH.

Max Lacroix, BU (Jr., G; Denver, Colo.) Made 24 saves in his first start of the season, backstopping BU to a 5-3 win over UNH. One of those 24 saves was on a breakaway bid.

Joey Muldowney, UConn (Jr., F; Lake View, N.Y.) Finished the weekend with two goals, including one shorthanded and one game-winning strike, and one assist for three points to help the Huskies finish 1-0-1 on the road at Maine.

Caelan Fitzpatrick, MC (So., F; Moose Jaw, Sask.) Had a goal and two assists in a 4-2 win over No. 14 Boston College on Friday.

Max Lundgren, MC (Jr., G; Angelholm, Sweden) Made 57 saves on 62 shots in a split weekend with No. 14 Boston College. He stopped 22 in Friday’s 4-2 win and then had 35 in the loss at BC, his fourth game this season with 35+ saves.

Chris Delaney, UML (So., F; Hopkinton, Mass.) Erupted for a four-point weekend at Vermont, helping the River Hawks to a series sweep and into eighth place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings. He assisted the team’s first goal in Friday’s 4-2 win, before a three-assist night in a 5-2 win on Saturday, including one on the game-winner. He also finished the series with a plus-three rating.

Diego Buttazzoni, UML (Fr., F; Langley, B.C.) Scored a power-play goal in each game of a sweep at Vermont, including the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 5-2 victory.

Samuel Richard, UML (Sr., G; Sainte-Catherine, Que.) Posted a 2-0-0 weekend at Vermont, helping UMass Lowell to 4-2 and 5-2 wins. In game one, he made 33 saves, before making 24 the next night, finishing the weekend with a 2.00 GAA and .934 save percentage.

Morgan Winters, UNH (Sr., F; Osprey, Fla.) Posted two goals and one assist for three points on Friday as UNH defeated Boston University, 4-1. Winters earned his 11th career multi-point game. He also tied his most goals for a game and points for a game.

Brendan Fitzgerald, UNH (Jr., D; North Reading, Mass.) Dished out three assists on Saturday as he contributed on all three UNH goals as the Wildcats fell at Boston University, 5-3. His three assists and three points were a career best and was his third career multi-point game.

Jacob Mathieu, NU (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) Tallied three points (2g, 1a) over the weekend, tied for second among all Hockey East rookies. He paced all Hockey East freshmen with two goals, including the game-winning tally in a 4-2 upset over No. 7 Providence.

Lawton Zacher, NU (Jr., G; Buffalo, N.Y.) Played 177:57 minutes of action in three games, totaling 102 saves, the most among all Hockey East goaltenders, and posting a .936 save percentage. He recorded a season-high 41 saves against No. 7 Providence in game two and collected 25 saves in an upset win against the Friars for his sixth victory against a ranked opponent this season.

Donovan McCoy, PC (Fr., D; Belleville, Ont.) Scored the game-winning goal with 3:12 left in regulation and added an assist in Providence’s 4-1 win over Northeastern on Saturday night. He finished the weekend with a plus-three rating.

Michael Simpson, PC (Fr., G; London, Ont.) Earned his first career win in his first NCAA appearance on Saturday night against Northeastern. He stopped 17 of 18 shots, good for a 1.01 GAA and .944 save percentage.
