BU Wins Red Hot Hockey at Madison Square Garden, UNH Shuts Out Bentley

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Boston College sophomore James Hagens and UMass Lowell freshman Dalyn Wakely each scored their first career NCAA hat tricks while helping their teams to non-conference victories. Hagens, a first-round pick of the Boston Bruins, netted three goals in a 5-3 win over rival Notre Dame on Black Friday. Wakely erupted for three strikes in a 7-3 win over St. Lawrence at the Adirondack Invitational.

Cole Eiserman willed Boston University to a 2-1 victory over No. 17 Cornell at Madison Square Garden during Red Hot Hockey. He had the primary helper on the game’s opening power-play goal and then potted the game-winner in the third period. Mikhail Yegorov made 28 saves on 29 shots.

Philip Svedeback backboned Providence to a weekend split at Colorado College, making 67 saves while allowing just four goals on the road, including a season-high 37 in Saturday’s 2-1 win. Hudson Malinoski scored both goals in the victory and had another in Friday’s contest.

New Hampshire earned a 3-0 win at Bentley on Saturday, buoyed by two goals from rookie Jacob Newcombe and a 22-save shutout from Kyle Chauvette. The win moved UNH to 5-3-0 on the road this year.

Hockey East claimed five out-of-conference victories on Saturday night, including wins for Providence at Colorado College and Boston University over No. 17 Cornell at Madison Square Garden. The wins improved the non-conference record to 36-31-6 on the year.

Beginning Friday, Hockey East will have games played on eight of the next 10 days, featuring both conference and non-conference games, to end the 2025 calendar year.

James Hagens (So., F; Hauppauge, N.Y.) recorded his first collegiate hat trick to lead the Eagles to a 5-3 win over Notre Dame on Friday. He now has nine points and six goals in his last seven games.

Cole Eiserman (So., F; Newburyport, Mass.) broke a 1-1 tie in the third period to lift BU to a 2-1 win over No. 17 Cornell at Red Hot Hockey in Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Eiserman also had the primary helper on Kamil Bednarik’s first-period goal.

Dalyn Wakely - UMass Lowell

Dalyn Wakely (Fr., F; Port Hope, Ont.) scored his first career hat trick during Saturday’s 7-3 win over St. Lawrence. He also ended the weekend winning 11 of 21 faceoffs for a .524 winning percentage.

Brendan Fitzgerald - New Hampshire

Brendan Fitzgerald (Jr., D; North Reading, Mass.) posted two assists for two points and was a member of a defense that allowed no goals as UNH won at Bentley, 3-0, on Saturday. He recorded an assist on each of the first two goals and was plus-one on the day. Fitzgerald is on a three-game point streak with four assists over the last three games.

Philip Svedeback - Providence

Philip Svedeback (Sr., G; Vaxjo, Sweden) stopped 67-of-71 shots he faced over the weekend at Colorado College, including a season-high 37 saves in Providence’s 2-1 win on Saturday night. He finished the weekend with a 2.04 GAA and .944 save percentage.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Will Skahan, BC (So., D; Woodbury, Minn.) Netted his first goal of the year on Friday to help the Eagles to a 5-3 win over Notre Dame in non-conference play.

Louka Cloutier, BC (Fr., G; Sherbrooke, Que.) Made 20 saves, including 10 in the third period, en route to his eighth win of the year in a 5-3 victory over Notre Dame on Friday.

Charlie Trethewey, BU (Fr., D; Woodbine, Md.) Provided the primary assist on Cole Eiserman’s game-winning goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over No. 17 Cornell at Red Hot Hockey. He also led the Terriers with two blocked shots.

Gavin McCarthy, BU (Jr., D; Clarence Center, N.Y.) Assisted on Kamil Bednarik’s first-period strike in the Terriers’ 2-1 win over No. 17 Cornell on Saturday at Red Hot Hockey.

Mikhail Yegorov, BU (So., G; St. Petersburg, Russia) Stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced to backstop the Terriers to a 2-1 win over No. 17 Cornell at Red Hot Hockey.

Dillan Bentley, UML (Sr., F; Peoria, Ill.) Skated in his 100th career game for the River Hawks on Saturday. He scored two goals for the second time this year and added one assist to help the team take a 7-3 victory over St. Lawrence. He also concluded the weekend with a plus-three rating and won 15 of 25 faceoffs taken.

Austin Elliott, UML (Fr., G; Strathmore, Alta.) Started both games in a split weekend for the River Hawks this weekend, finishing 1-1-0 with 38 total saves.

Trevor Hoskin, MC (So., F; Belleville, Ont.) Extended his Merrimack-leading point total (4g, 10a) with two assists in a 5-4 setback against Notre Dame on Wednesday.

Justin Gill, MC (Fr., F; St-Joseph-du-Lac, Que.) Scored his fifth goal of the year on Wednesday against Notre Dame.

Max Lundgren, MC (Jr., G; Angelholm, Sweden) Made 48 saves in two games for the Warriors, falling 5-4 to Notre Dame and 1-0 against unbeaten Dartmouth.

Jacob Newcombe, UNH (Fr., F; Sambro, N.S.) Scored the first two goals of the game as the Wildcats defeated Bentley on the road, 3-0 on Saturday. It was the first career multi-goal game for Newcombe and his game winner was the first of his career. He has totaled three goals and one assist for four points over the last two games as this was his second straight multi-point game. Newcombe now has four goals and three assists for seven points on the season.

Kyle Chauvette, UNH (Sr., G; Goffstown, N.H.) Recorded a 22-save shutout as UNH won at Bentley, 3-0, on Saturday. He made 10 saves during the first period, while he recorded six each in both the second and third. The shutout by Chauvette was his second of the season and the seventh of his career.

Dylan Hryckowian, NU (Jr., F; Ile Bizard, Que.) Registered a three-point game to pace the Huskies to a 4-1 win over Brown on Saturday. He scored NU’s third goal of the night after assisting on the game-opening goal and 4-1 insurance tally. He finished with three shots on net and a plus-two rating.

Amine Hajibi, NU (Fr., F; Montreal, Que.) Picked up two points en route to Northeastern’s 4-1 victory over Brown. He scored the opening goal for the Huskies while adding an assist on the NU’s third tally. He put four shots on net and had a plus-one rating.

Hudson Malinoski, PC (Jr., F; Saskatoon, Sask.) Poured in three goals for the Friars over a split weekend series at Colorado College. On Friday, he scored a power-play goal before following up on Saturday with two tallies, including the game-winner, in Providence’s 2-1 win. He finished the weekend with 11 shots on goal and a plus-two rating.
