BC Wins Twice At Vermont, Northeastern Sweeps Non-Conference

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Boston College was the only Hockey East team to earn six points last weekend, sweeping Vermont in Burlington. Louka Cloutier earned both wins for the Eagles, making 50 saves on 51 shots, including 21 in his first collegiate shutout on Saturday.

No. 6 Maine and No. 13 Massachusetts split a series in Amherst as Minutemen goaltender Jackson Irving stopped 85 shots across two starts, including a career-high 48 on Thursday and a 37-save shutout the next night. Maine junior Josh Nadeau erupted for a four-point game in Thursday’s 6-2 win, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist.

No. 12 Boston University earned five points from Merrimack in a home-and-home, with Sasha Boisvert dishing out four assists in Saturday’s back-and-forth 5-4 road win. Cole Hutson secured an overtime win on Friday just 21 seconds into the extra frame for the Terriers.

No. 11 UConn and No. 15 Providence traded road points, with Friar freshman Alex Rybakov netting his first NCAA goal, and first game-winner, in a 4-1 victory Friday. The next night, UConn’s Ryan Tattle scored with 1:25 left in regulation to force overtime and the Huskies earned the extra shootout point off the stick of Trey Scott.

Northeastern was the lone Hockey East team in non-conference play, and took two wins over Stonehill off the play of Lawton Zacher. He totaled 61 saves on 63 shots and now has wins in six straight, the longest such streak in the NCAA.

Sacha Boisvert - Boston University
Josh Nadeau - Maine

Sacha Boisvert (So., F; Trois-Rivieres, Que.) had four points, all assists Saturday night’s 5-4 win at Merrimack. Boisvert’s four his helpers included three primary assists, marking a career high in points in a single game. He became the first Terrier to notch four assists in a game this season and is one of four players in Division I, and only one in Hockey East, with four assists in a game this year.

Josh Nadeau (Jr., F; St-François-de- Madawaska, N.B.) recorded a four-point game with three goals and one assist in Maine’s win at No. 13 Massachusetts on Friday night. His hat trick included one short-handed goal, one even-strength goal, and one power-play goal. He fired 13 shots on goal over the weekend.

Louka Cloutier - Boston College

Louka Cloutier (Fr., G; Sherbrooke, Que.) picked up two league wins in a road weekend at Vermont, stopping 50 of the 51 shots he faced. He posted 29 saves in a 2-1 win on Friday, before recording his first collegiate shutout with a 21-save performance on Saturday.

Alex Rybakov - Providence

Alex Rybakov (Fr., D; Chelyabinsk, Russia) netted his first NCAA goal, which proved to be the game-winning strike, in Providence’s 4-1 win at UConn on Friday night. He finished the weekend with four shots, five blocks and a plus-one rating

Jackson Irving - Massachusetts

Jackson Irving (Jr., G; Newbury, Mass.) started both games against No. 6 Maine and posted a .934 save percentage for the weekend making 85 stops with a 3.01 goals against average and a 1-1-0 record. He made a career high 48 saves in Thursday’s loss to the Black Bears and earned the game’s No. 3 star before rebounding with 37 saves in his second collegiate shutout, 4-0, over Maine and was tabbed the No. 1 star of the game.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Jake Sondreal, BC (So., F; Woodbury, Minn.) Helped the Eagles to a road sweep of Vermont with one goal and two assists.

Landan Resendes, BC (Fr., F; Marlborough, Mass.) Scored his first collegiate goal with 90 seconds remaining to put Boston College back in the lead in a 2-1 win over Vermont on Friday.

Lukas Gustafsson, BC (Sr., D; Atlanta, Ga.) Posted one goal and one assist in the 5-0 victory over Vermont on Saturday.

Ryder Ritchie, BU (Fr., F; Kelowna, B.C.) Earned two points (1g, 1a) in a weekend sweep of Merrimack. Ritchie’s goal was the third of the game for the Terriers in Saturday’s 5-4 win over Merrimack .He also earned an assist on the second goal of the game, scored by Cole Hutson.

Cole Hutson, BU (So., D; Chicago, Ill.) Had two goals, including Friday’s overtime game-winning strike, in a weekend sweep of Merrimack. The sophomore defender also finished plus-four in the two games.

Justin Poirier, Maine (Fr., F; Valleyfield, Que.) Scored the game-winning goal Friday night during Maine’s 6-2 win at No. 13 UMass. He finished a weekend split with 14 shots on goal, a plus-four rating, and four blocks.

Brandon Holt, Maine (Sr., D; Grand Forks, N.D.) Had a goal, three shots on net, and one blocked shot for Maine in a 1-1-0 week at No. 13 UMass.

Jay Ahearn, UML (Gr., F; Staten Island, N.Y.) Had a four-point game on Saturday to help the River Hawks to a 6-1 victory at New Hampshire. He scored one goal with dished out three assists to finish with a plus-four rating on the night to take a weekend split from the Wildcats.

Dalyn Wakely, UML (Fr., F; Port Hope, Ont.) Scored the unassisted game-winning goal while skating at four-on-four and added an assist to finish with two points in a 6-1 win at New Hampshire. The tally was the first of his career.

Josh Mori, UML (Fr., D; Richmond, B.C.) Assisted on two goals and finished with a plus-three rating in a 6-1 road win at UNH in addition to blocking two shots.

Austin Elliott, UML (Fr., G; Strathmore, Alta.) Went 1-1-0 for the River Hawks against New Hampshire, allowing just one goal in each contest. He concluded game one with 25 saves on 26 shots before making 26 the next night to help the team to a 6-1 victory. He is now second in Hockey East overall with a 1.93 GAA and .929 save percentage and also second with a conference GAA of 1.08 and .955 save percentage.

Dylan Hryckowian, NU (Jr., F; Ile Bizard, Que.) Tied the league-high with four points (2g, 2a) in a sweep of Stonehill and a six-game winning streak.

Jacob Mathieu, NU (Fr., F; St-Odilon, Que.) Recorded a three-point weekend to lead all Hockey East rookies, all coming on assists. He set up the game-winning goal in NU’s series opener of a sweep of Stonehill on Friday. He added two shots on net, a plus-two rating, four blocked shots, and went 15-for-26 (.578) at the faceoff dot. He is currently on a four-game point streak, totaling six points (1g, 5a).

Vinny Borgesi, NU (Sr., D; Philadelphia, Pa.) Had three points in a sweep of Stonehill to lead all Hockey East defense- men with one goal and two assists, including a helper on the game-winner on Saturday. He added four shots on goal, a plus-three rating and two blocked shots. The captain is currently on a four-game point streak, totaling five points (2g, 3a).

Lawton Zacher, NU (Jr., G; Buffalo, N.Y.) Secured his second consecutive weekend sweep to earn his seventh win of the season, fifth victory in a row, and third shutout of the year. He totaled 61 saves on 63 shots across 120 minutes of action, tied for the third most of the weekend among HE goaltenders. Posted a 1.00 goals-against average and a .968 save percentage, both ranking second in the league. He has backboned Northeastern to the third-longest winning streak in the country — and the best in Hockey East — with six straight wins

Logan Sawyer, PC (So., F; Orangeville, Ont.) Scored twice in Providence’s 4-1 victory at UConn on Friday night. He finished a four-point weekend for Providence with four shots and a plus-one rating.

Philip Svedeback, PC (Sr, G; Vaxjo, Sweden) Stopped 37 of 38 shots he faced in the Friars’ 4-1 win at UConn and followed up with a 28-save performance in a 2-2 draw on Saturday night. He posted a 1.44 GAA and .956 save percentage over two games.
