Hutson, Zacher Honored With National Awards

The first monthly honorees of the Men’s Hockey Commissioners Association have been chosen. This year’s monthly selections have expanded to four honorees. They are now: Forward, Goaltender, Defender and Rookie of the Month. A separate release with Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association honorees is also being released today.


Men’s Co-Forward of the Month: Max Plante, SO F, Minnesota Duluth (Hermantown, MN)

Men’s Co-Forward of the Month: JJ Wiebusch, SO F, Penn State (Verona, WI)

Plante and Wiebusch each had 18 points in October. Plante led UMD to an 8-1 record with a line of 9-9-18. Wiebusch and the Nittany Lions are off to a 9-1 start, his 11-7-18 a big factor.


Men’s Goalie of the Month: Lawton Zacher, JR G, Northeastern (Buffalo, NY)

Zacher’s 5-1 month finished with three wins over Denver and BC (2), allowing a single goal. For the month: .952 and 1.51 with two shutouts.

Men’s Co-Defender of the Month: Cole Hutson, SO D, Boston University (Chicago, IL)

Hutson went 3-7-10 in eight games (1.25 PPG) for BU, with the last five of those games agaisnt Top Ten opponents.


Men’s Co-Defender of the Month: Ben Robertson, JR D, Michigan (Potomac Falls, VA)

Robertson paced the 8-1 Wolverines with a line of 0-11-11 in nine games (1.22 PPG). His 11 assists led the NCAA.


Men’s Rookie of the Month: Gavin McKenna, FR F, Penn State (Whitehorse, YT)

McKenna went 3-10-13 in 10 games, his 10 assists leading all NCAA freshmen. He had points in eight games, including the last four in October.
