Record 91 Hockey East Alumni to Begin 2025-26 Season on NHL Rosters
All 11 Members Send at Least One Alumni to NHL

AMESBURY, Mass. – Hockey East will see a record 91 alumni begin the 2025-26 season on National Hockey League rosters it was announced this week by the NHL. All 11 member institutions are represented and all 32 member clubs carry at least one Hockey East alumnus on their roster. The 91 alumni represent over one-third of the record 248 college alumni on NHL rosters to open the season. A full list of players can be found below.

The 91 players represent every Hockey East member institution, led by Boston College (20), Boston University (18), Northeastern (11), Providence (11),and Massachusetts (9). Rounding out the schools are New Hampshire (6), Maine (5), UConn (3), UMass Lowell (1), Merrimack (1), and Vermont (1). Additionally, five Notre Dame skaters who competed in Hockey East earned NHL roster spots.

In total, 25 of the 32 NHL clubs carry at least two league products. The roster data includes players who are on injured reserve or long-term injured reserve to open the season, or who have been designated injured non-roster.

The Hockey East Association saw 20 current players and commitments selected in the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft, representing seven of the 11 Hockey East member schools and highlighted by three players who developed in Hockey East in 2024-25, including two first round selections.

The selections were underlined by nine picks in the first two rounds, including four first-round choices in James Hagens (Boston College/Boston), Roger McQueen (Providence/Anaheim), Vaclav Nestrasil (Massachusetts/Chicago), and Sascha Boumedienne (Boston University/Winnipeg). The Hagens selection gives Boston College at least one player selected for the 30th consecutive draft, extending their all-time NCAA record set last year. Hagens and Boumedienne played in Hockey East during 2024-25.

Twenty-six of the NHL’s 32 franchises drafted at least one current or committed NCAA player. Colorado had the most with five, followed by Buffalo, Chicago and Detroit with four each. There have now been 77 first-round picks from the NCAA over the last 10 NHL Drafts (2015-24) compared to 54 first-rounders over the previous 10 drafts (2005-14).

The impressive showing at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft concluded a record-breaking 2024-25 NHL season for Hockey East alumni. In total, a record 123 Hockey East alumni appeared in at least one NHL game, representing over one-third of the 341 NCAA alumni to play in the NHL last season. Hockey East boasted over 100 NHL players for the fourth year in a row.

Additionally, Hockey East produced each of the major award winners for the 2024-25 NHL season, including Hart Trophy and three-time Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck (UMass Lowell/Winnipeg), two-time Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar (Massachusetts/Colorado) and Rookie of the Year Lane Hutson (Boston University/Montreal). Hutson’s former Terrier teammate and 2024 number one overall pick Macklin Celebrini was also a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie.

The Hockey East Association saw nine alumni raise the 2025 Stanley Cup, as the Florida Panthers claimed the National Hockey League’s top prize for the second straight year. The league products include three players and six members of the Panthers front office staff and it marks the 15th straight year that at least one Hockey East alumnus will have their name engraved on the Stanley Cup. The players included Evan Rodrigues (Boston University, 2011-15), Brandon Montour (Massachusetts, 2014-15), and Ryan Lomberg (Maine, 2012-14). Leading Florida in the front office was Assistant GM Brett Peterson (Boston College, 2000-04), Senior Advisor to the GM Paul Fenton (Boston University, 1979-82), Manager, Player Development Mike Ryan (Northeastern, 1999-03), Amateur Scout P.J. Fenton (Massachusetts, 2004-08), Amateur Scout Josh Monk (Providence, 2013-17) and Director of European Pro Scouting Oleg Yevenko (Massachusetts, 2011-15).
