HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Merrimack freshman Parker Lalonde scored his first career hat trick in a 5-1 win over New Hampshire on Friday, including goals at even strength, while shorthanded, and into an empty net. The Warrior rookie now has four goals and five points in his last two games and has Merrimack on top of the Hockey East Standings.

Northeastern traveled to No. 11 Massachusetts and took a 4-2 victory from the Minutemen. Vinny Borgesi recorded a plus-three rating and blocked three shots while first-year forward Giacomo Martino scored the game-winning goal for the Huskies.

Vermont’s Aiden Wright continued a strong start to his NCAA career, becoming the first Catamount netminder in their Hockey East era to post back-to-back games with at least 40 saves, including turning aside 45 in a 2-1 overtime victory at St. Cloud. Sebastian Tornqvist scored the game-winning goal.

Boston College and Providence each took a 5-1 win at RPI. James Hagens scored twice for the Eagles while the Friars’ Philip Svedeback kicked out 28 of 29 shots he faced from the Engineers.

UMass earned a 5-4 overtime win against Bentley of the stick of Francesco Dell'Elce. Rookie Vaclav Nestrasil had the second three-point (1g, 2a) game of his season in the victory.

Parker Lalonde - Merrimack

Parker Lalonde (Fr., F; Aberdeen, Sask.) scored a hat trick in Saturday’s 5-1 win over New Hampshire, including an even-strength strike, a shorthanded tally, and an empty net goal. Lalonde now has four goals and five points in his last two games, both wins for Merrimack.

Giacomo Martino - Northeastern

Giacomo Martino (Fr., F; Toronto, Ont.) scored the game-winning goal in a 4-2 win at No. 11 UMass to secure the Huskies’ second consecutive road win over the Minutemen. He finished with one shot on goal and a plus-one rating and was named First Star of the Game.

Vinny Borgesi - Northeastern

Vinny Borgesi (Sr., D; Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded the primary assist on the Huskies’ fourth goal in a 4-2 win at No. 11 UMass. He anchored the defensive unit with a plus-three rating and three blocked shots, both the most among all skaters and put three shots on goal.

Aiden Wright - Vermont

Aiden Wright (Fr., G; Wake Forest, N.C.) became the first UVM goaltender in its Hockey East era to post back-to-back games of 40 or more saves in a split weekend at St. Cloud State this weekend. He stopped 85 of the 90 shots he faced and helped UVM earn a weekend split with a 2-1 overtime win on Friday .


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

James Hagens, BC (So., F; Hauppauge, N.Y.) Netted his first two goals of the year to lead Boston College to a 5-1 win over RPI in the team’s lone game of the weekend.

Landan Resendes, BC (Fr., F; Marlborough, Mass.) Posted the primary assist on the final goal of the night for the Eagles in a 5-1 victory over RPI.

Drew Fortescue, BC (Jr., D; Pearl River, N.Y.) Registered the primary assist on BC’s fourth goal of the night in a 5-1 win at RPI. He finished with a plus-two rating.

Louka Cloutier, BC (Fr., G; Sherbrooke, Que.) Stopped 10 of 11 shots in a 5-1 win at RPI.

Conrad Fondrk, BU (Fr., F; White Bear Lake, Minn.) Had two points (1g, 1a) in a weekend series against No. 3 Michigan State, and scored his first career goal to force overtime on Saturday.

Sascha Boumedienne, BU (So., D; Stockholm, Sweden) Posted two points (1g, 1a) and five blocks in a series against No. 3 Michigan State.

Diego Buttazzoni, UML (Fr., F: Langley, B.C.) Netted his first career goal Friday night against defending NCAA champions Western Michigan.

TJ Schweighardt, UML (Sr., D; Manahawkin, N.J.) Picked up an assist on Friday against Western Michigan, while leading the team with four blocked shots. He also tied for the team lead with two blocks on Saturday and finished the series with five shots on net.

Austin Elliott, UML (Fr., G; Strathmore, Alta.) Made 31 saves in Friday’s 2-1 setback to Western Michigan, and made 25 more on Saturday.

Filip Nordberg, MC (Fr., D; Stockholm, Sweden) Had the primary assist on the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 5-1 win over New Hampshire and added four blocked shots.

Max Lundgren, MC (Jr., G; Angelholm, Sweden) Made 20 stops in a 5-1 victory over UNH on Saturday.

Joe Connor, NU (So., F; Notthingham, N.H.) Recorded a game-high six shots on goal in a 4-2 road win at No. 11 UMass, and scored to extend the Huskies’ lead to 2-0 in the second period. He posted a plus-two rating and now has four points (3g, 1a) through three games.

Lawton Zacher, NU (Jr., G; Buffalo, N.Y.) Backstopped Northeastern to a road win over No. 11 UMass, earning his second win of the season. He matched his season-high with 25 saves, turning aside 13 shots in the second period alone. He ended the night with a .926 save percentage and allowed just two goals on 27 shots.

Will Elger, PC (So., F; Westerville, Ohio) Scored two goals on four shots on net in a 5-1 win at RPI on Saturday.

Philip Svedeback, PC (Sr., G; Vaxjo, Sweden) Posted a 1.00 goals against average and .966 save percent- age, stopping 28 of 29 shots in a 5-1 win at RPI on Saturday.
