Six League Teams Earn Bids Into NCAA Tournament

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Maine claimed a 5-2 victory over UConn to earn its first Hockey East Tournament championship since 2004 in front of 17,605 fans at TD Garden on Friday night. Albin Boija earned MVP honors after kicking out 87 of 93 shots he faced in three tournament games for the Black Bears.

Maine advanced past Northeastern, the first-ever nine seed to make the semifinals, in a 4-3 double overtime win after 91:02 of play off the stick of Nolan Renwick in the fourth-longest semifinal game in league history. Northeastern blocked 42 of Maine’s 138 shot attempts and Cameron Whitehead made 57 saves, the third-most in semifinal history, for his Huskies.

UConn’s Jake Richard dished out four assists in a 5-2 semifinal win over Boston University, tying the record for most all-time helpers in a single semifinal. His seven assists in three tournament games is the second-most in a single Hockey East Tournament.

Northeastern tied an all-time Hockey East Tournament record going a perfect 10-for-10 on the penalty kill in three games.

A record-tying six teams from the Hockey East Association have earned bids NCAA Tournament, tying an all-time record of representation from one conference. The historic showing increases Hockey East’s record of 133 NCAA Tournament field selections which sits 37 clear of the next active conference’s number.

Albin Boija - Maine

Albin Boija (So., G; Sundsvall, Sweden) was named MVP of the Hockey East Tournament after stopping 87 of 93 shots he faced across his three starts. Las weekend, he went 2-0-0 to backbone the Black Bears to their first title since 2004, earning a 1.99 goals against average and .923 save percentage.

Joe Connor - Northeastern

Joe Connor (Fr., F; Nottingham, N.H.) lead all rookies in Hockey East with four blocks for Northeastern and a primary assist on a power-play goal that sparked a three-goal run for Northeastern in the semifinals. Connor’s four blocks were part of a team effort that saw the Huskies block 42 shots from Maine.

David Breazeale - Maine

David Breazeale (Sr., D; Jenison, Mich.) had two assists, including on the title-winning goal on Saturday to deliver Maine its first Hockey East title since 2004. He also record five shots on goal and three blocked shots. The Maine captain played 36:11 of work in the double overtime game against Northeastern alone, anchoring a defense that blocked 16 shots.

Cameron Whitehead - Northeastern

Cameron Whitehead (S o., G; Orleans, Ont.) made 57 saves, the 12th-highest total in Hockey East Tournament history and the third-most ever in a semifinal in a 4-3 setback in double overtime to even- tual-champion Maine. In three playoff games, he saved 131 of 138 shots he faced, leading the Huskies into the semifinals as the first-ever No. 9 seed to do so.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Jake Richard, UConn (So., F; Jacksonville, Fla.) Dished out four assists in the Hockey East semifinals, tying for the most in semifinal history, as part of a 5-2 win over #3 Boston University. Richard had seven assists in three Hockey East Tournament game, tying for second-most in a single tournament in history.

Joey Muldowney, UConn (So., F; Lake View, N.Y.) Scored the first hat trick in a Hockey East semifinal since 2006, lifting the Huskies to a 5-2 win over #3 Boston University. He was named to the Hock- ey East All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

Harrison Scott, Maine (Sr., F; San Jose, Calif.) Was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-winning goal in the championship game for Maine. He finished the champion- ship weekend with one goal and two assists for three points while leading the league in face-off wins (31) and blocked shots (7).

Nolan Renwick, Maine (Sr., F; Milestone, Sask.) Scored the double overtime goal against Northeastern and dished out two assists in the championship game to help Maine to the 2025 Hockey East Tournament championship.

Luke Antonacci, Maine (Jr., D; Princeton, N.J.) Earned a spot on the Steve Nazro All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-tying goal with 7:16 left in regulation to force overtime in the Hockey East semifinals.

Owen Fowler, Maine (Jr., F; Tewksbury, Mass.) Scored two goals in the Hockey East semifinals, an eventual 4-3 double overtime win over Northeastern, and was named to the Steve Nazro All-Tourna- ment Team.

Vinny Borgesi, NU (Jr., D; Philadelphia, Pa.) Played 40:47 of work in a 4-3 double overtime loss to Maine, earning an even plus-minus rating, blocking two shots, and winning one face off.
