40th Annual Tournament Begins Wednesday

AMESBURY, Mass. - The Hockey East Association today announced the field for the 2025 Hockey East Men’s Tournament. The tournament will feature all 11 programs competing in a single-elimination format. A full schedule including television and streaming information can be found below.

The Opening Round begins with three games on Wednesday, March 12. #6 Massachusetts (19-12-5/10-9-5 HE) and #11 Vermont (11-20-3/6-16-2 HE) kick things off at 7:00pm on NESN. During the regular season, Vermont was undefeated against the Minutemen, going 2-0-1 with a shootout victory in November. All-time in the postseason, the Catamounts and Minutemen are 2-2 against each other with all four games coming in the Opening Round and most recently in 2018.

#8 Merrimack (13-20-1/9-14-1 HE) hosts #9 Northeastern (12-19-3/7-14-3 HE) at 7:00 p.m. on NESN+. The two programs met in the 2024 Opening Round, a 4-0 Northeastern win at Matthews Arena. During the regular season, the Warriors won two of the three games against the Huskies, although Northeastern was victorious most recently, taking a 2-1 win on March 6 at Merrimack.

#7 UMass Lowell (15-15-4/8-13-3 HE) draws #10 New Hampshire (13-15-6/5-14-5 HE) after the Wildcats swept the River Hawks in the final weekend of the regular season to earn the 10th seed. It is the second straight year the teams will play each other three times in a row including an Opening Round contest, after New Hampshire took a 1-0 playoff win at home following a regular season sweep to end the 2023-24 campaign.

One quarterfinal is already set, as #4 UConn (20-10-4/12-8-4 HE) repeats its highest-ever finish and will face off with #5 Providence (21-9-5/11-8-5 HE) on Friday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. on NESN. The Friars went 1-0-1 over the Huskies in the regular season. The teams have met once in the Hockey East postseason, a 2021 quarterfinal series that was also a #4 vs. #5 match up at UConn. The Friars earned a 6-1 victory that day.

Top-seeded Boston College (26-6-2/18-4-2 HE) claimed the Hockey East Regular Season crown for the second straight year and the 19th time in program history. The Eagles await the lowest advancing seed from the Opening Round. Boston College wrapped the regular season on a 14-2-1 mark in their last 17 outings, including a six-game unbeaten streak. BC is looking to defend their 2024 tournament crown.

#2 Maine (21-7-6/13-5-6 HE) earned its highest finish in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings since 2006 when the Black Bears were also two seed. Maine looks to return to TD Garden for just the second time in the last 13 seasons after they snapped a 12-year drought in 2024. The Black Bears have not appeared in the Hockey East title game since 2012 and last won the Lamoriello Trophy in 2004.

#3 Boston University (20-12-2/14-8-2 HE) enters the Hockey East Tournament as the third seed for the ninth time in program history and will attempt to avenge last year’s championship game loss to Boston College. The Terriers are tied for the most semifinal appearances in Hockey East history with 27 (Boston College) and have skated at TD Garden in six of the last 11 years.

The Hockey East semifinals are set tentatively set for 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 at TD Garden in Boston, while the 40th championship game will be played Friday, March 21 at 7:30pm. All three games will air in their entirety on NESN+. Tickets are available via the host institution for each on-campus game while championship tickets can be purchased now at TicketMaster.com.
