BC, Maine in Hunt for Crown; Six Teams Seeking Home Ice

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Boston College and Maine have secured home ice in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Hockey East Men’s Tournament after the Eagles swept Vermont and the Black Bears earned a point on the road at UConn. The two squads are the final in contention for the regular season crown.

UConn continued its hot run in 2025, earning its third win in a row to extend its current streak to 9-2-2 since the new year and move to eighth in the PairWise. The Huskies are in the hunt for their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

Providence toppled UMass Lowell, 4-2, off the stick of a hat trick from Nick Poisson that vaulted the Friars into a tie for third place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings. There are now six teams within seven points of each other, ranging from hosting a quarterfinal game on home ice to traveling in the Opening Round.

Four other teams earned points on the weekend, as Boston University and Northeastern split a series and New Hampshire took a shootout win over UMass on Friday before the Minutemen earned a win the next night. There is no clarity in the men’s playoff picture as the standings remain tight.

Boston University and UConn square off in a crucial match in Storrs on Tuesday night in a crucial match up for both squads, both in Hockey East and nationally. The Terriers (38) and Huskies (30) sit third and fourth in the standings, respectively.
