#3 Boston University Takes Down UConn in League Opener

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

#9 Maine swept #9 Quinnipiac at a sold out Alfond Arena last weekend. Senior forward Harrison Scott led Hockey East in face-off wins (27), points (5) and assists (5) as he helped power the Black Bear offense. He assisted on the game-winning goal on both nights, including the overtime winner on Saturday, while also firing sevens shots on goal.

#3 Boston University opened the Hockey East season on Friday Night Hock- ey East on NESN with a 4-2 win over UConn. Rookie forward Cole Eiserman scored two goals, including the game-winner, over the Huskies.

#14 Providence swept Arizona State, 4-1 and 2-1, off the back of a Tanner Adams hat trick on Friday and hot goaltending both nights. Zachary Borgiel kicked out 31 of 32 shots he faced Saturday in the 2-1 win in his Friars debut after Philip Svedeback stopped 27 of 28 on Friday.

Gabe Perreault led all Boston College scorers with three points after registering one goal and two assists in 5-0 win against AIC on Friday. Perreault’s goal came on the power play. He added a goal and an assist in an 8-4 exhibition win over the U.S. National Under-18 Team.

Merrimack and New Hampshire dueled to a 0-0 tie in their league openers. The Warriors’ rookie netminder Ryan Keyes made 19 saves in his NCAA debut while UNH’s Jared Whale stopped all 16 shots he faced. Merrimack took the extra point in the shootout.

UMass rookie defender Francesco Dell'Elce scored the first two goals of his career, which included a power-play goal and the game winner, while also adding an assist in a 6-1 road win at Sacred Heart.

Harrison Scott (Sr., F; San Jose, Calif.) led Hockey East in face-off wins (27), points (5) and assists (5) as he helped Maine to a sweep of #7 Quinnipiac. He assisted on the game-winning goal on both nights, including the overtime winner on Saturday, while also firing sevens shots on goal.


PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cole Eiserman - Boston University

Cole Eiserman (Fr., F; Newburyport, Mass.) scored a career-high two goals, including the game-winner, in Friday’s 4-2 win over UConn. Eiserman is the first Terrier since at least 2002-03 to score four goals in his first three collegiate games. No other rookie in the nation has scored more goals than Eiserman.

Ryan Keyes - Merrimack

Ryan Keyes (Fr., G; Fairbanks, Alaska) made 19 saves and collected a shutout in his first ever NCAA start in Merrimack’s 0-0 tie against New Hampshire on Friday and stopped all three shootout attempts to earn two points in Hockey East play for Merrimack.

Zachary Borgiel and Philip Svedeback - Providence

Zachary Borgiel (Gr., G; Fort Gratiot, Mich.) stopped 31-of-32 shots he faced, earning a win in his debut as a Friar in the 2-1 win on Saturday against Arizona State. He finished the game with a 1.00 GAA and .969 save percentage.

Philip Svedeback (Jr., G; Vaxjo, Sweden) posted 27 stops on 28 shots faced in Friday’s 4-1 win over ASU. He recorded a 1.00 GAA and .964 save percentage.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Gabe Perreault, BC (So., F; Hinsdale, Ill.) Led all Boston College scorers with three points after registering one goal and two assists in 5-0 win against AIC. Perreault’s goal came on the power play. He added a goal and an assist in an 8-4 exhibition win over the NTDP.

James Hagens, BC (Fr., F; Hauppauge, N.Y.) Had the primary assist on the game-winning goal in a 5-0 win over AIC. He then scored his first collegiate goal during the second period while also securing his first multi- point game. He added another goal in an 8-4 exhibition win over the NTDP.

Will Skahan, BC (Fr., D; Woodbury, Minn.) Had a night of firsts in BC’s 5-0 win over AIC. Skahan recorded his first collegiate point, his first collegiate goal, and his first multi-point game.

Jacob Fowler, BC (So., G; Melbourne, Fla.) Made 20 saves on Friday in BC’s 5-0 victory over AIC, earning him his second shutout of the season.

Tom Willander, BU (So., D; Stockholm, Sweden) Fired home an insurance goal in the Terriers’ 4-2 victory over UConn on Friday night. Willander was a plus-three against the Huskies in another terrific effort on the back end.

Mathieu Caron, BU (Sr., G; Abbotsford, B.C.) Made 24 saves in the Terriers’ 4-2 win over UConn on Friday, including several acrobatic stops early in the contest to keep the Terriers in it.

Brandon Holt, Maine (Jr., D; Grand Forks, N.D.) Scored the game-tying to goal to force overtime in Saturday’s sweep-clinching win over #7/8 Quinnipiac. He tied for league lead among defenders with three points on one goal and two assists and finished the weekend with a plus-four rating, eight shots on goal and two blocked shots.

David Breazeale, Maine (Sr., D; Jenison, Mich.) Scored the game-winning goal in overtime to complete Maine’s sweep of #7/8 Quinnipiac and finished the weekend with five blocked shots and four shots on goal.

Cole O'Hara, UMass (Jr., F; Richmond Hill, Ont.) Extended his point streak to five games with a four-point weekend against Sacred Heart. Had an assist and was plus-one in Saturday’s one-goal loss before helping UMass to a 6-1 win on the road on Saturday with a goal and two assists. He is currently tied for the NCAA lead in points with nine on the season.

Francesco Dell'Elce, UMass (Fr., D; King City, Ont.) Scored the first two goals of his career, which included a power-play goal and the game winner, while also adding an assist in a 6-1 road win at Sacred Heart.

Owen Cole, UML (Sr., F; Dunnville, Ont.) In a two-game sweep of Colgate, Cole scored two goals for UMass Lowell, one in game one's 5-2 victory, and one game-winning goal in a 2-1 win in game two. He also went 11 fr 20 from the faceoff circle for a .550 faceoff win percentage.

Chris Delaney, UML (Fr., F; Hopkinton, Mass.) Tallied one goal and one assist in a two-game sweep of Colgate. In Friday's game one, Delaney scored the team's fourth goal in a 5-2 victory, before adding an assist in Saturday's 2-1 victory. He now sits tied for second on the team with four points (3g, 1a) in as many games.

Ben Meehan, UML (Gr., D; Walpole, Mass.) Had another productive weekend for UMass Lowell in their two-game sweep of Colgate. On Saturday, he helped the team pick up the 2-1 victory and move to 3-1-0 on the year with an assist on the game-winning goal.

Henry Welsch, UML (Gr., G; Lakeville, Minn.) Made 44 saves and allowed just three goals against in a weekend sweep of Colgate. He posted 24 saves in a 2-1 win on Saturday, including 11 in the third period.

Zach Bookman, MC (Jr., D; Syracuse, N.Y.) Scored the winning shootout goal against UNH on Friday after anchoring a defense that did not allow a single goal to New Hampshire.

Jared Whale, UNH (Jr., G; Calgary, Alta.) Posted his first shutout as a Wildcat in a 0-0 tie at Merrimack on Friday. He made 16 saves and allowed one goal in the 1-0 shootout loss. For the season, Whale has only allowed one goal over the first two games with a 0.47 goals against average and a .975 save percentage.

Tanner Adams, PC (So., F; Northport, N.Y.) Recorded his first-career hat trick on Friday in Providence’s 4-1 win over Arizona State and added an assist in a 2-1 victory on Saturday over the Sun Devils. He finished tied for a league-best plus-four rating and nine shots on goal over the two games this weekend.
