UMass, New Hampshire, Providence Earn Wins over Ranked Opponents

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

No. 7/8 Providence swept a two-game home series against RPI and No. 2 Denver, earning the second victory over a top-five opponent for the Friars this season after defeating No. 5 Michigan in the season-opener on Oct. 7. Rookie forward Tanner Adams scored the game-winner and had two primary assists in Friday’s 4-3 win over the Pioneers. Jaroslav Chmelar extended his point streak to five games with an assist in a 4-2 win over RPI.

Merrimack swept a pair of ECAC foes in Clarkson and St. Lawrence, scoring nine goals across the two outings. Chase Stevenson scored three goals and Mark Hillier dished out four assists to power the Warriors’ offense.

New Hampshire earned a 5-4 overtime win over No. 4 Quinnipiac Saturday night in a thrilling Hockey East Game of the Week on NESN that saw four goals scored in the first five minutes of play and seven in the first period. Cy LeClerc posted two goals, including the game-winning strike, in the victory for New Hampshire.

UMass Lowell earned two wins at Colgate, including a 4-2 Friday victory off the back of four goals from junior forward Matt Crasa. The four goals surpass his total of two from a season ago and he has found the back of the net six times in just four games this year.

Massachusetts traveled to No. 19 Minnesota State and returned home with a pair of victories over the CCHA foe. The Minutemen penalty kill was a perfect 14-for-14 on the weekend thanks in part to rookie netminder Michael Hrabel who posted 60 saves, including a 32-save shutout on Saturday in a 1-0 win.

Matt Crasa (Jr., F; South Setauket, N.Y.) scored all four goals in UMass Lowell’s 4-2 win on Friday night at Colgate and followed up with an assist in Saturday’s 5-2 victory.

Tanner Adams - Providence

Tanner Adams (Fr., F; Northport, N.Y.) netted the game-winning goal and added two primary assists in Providence’s 4-3 victory over No. 2 Denver on Friday night to finish the weekend with a plus-two rating. He currently ranks second on the team in scoring with six points on two goals and four assists in five games.

Aaron Bohlinger - Massachusetts

Aaron Bohlinger (Sr., D; Walden, N.Y.) logged three assists and finished with a plus-one rating while blocking seven shots in a two-game weekend road sweep of No. 9/20 Minnesota State. He had a pair of assists in Friday’s 6-3 victory and blocked three shots. On Saturday, he helped lead a UMass defense to a 1-0 shutout victory and picked up the primary assist on the game’s only tally while blocking four shots. He also helped UMass’ penalty kill go a perfect 14-for-14 on the weekend.

Michael Hrabal - Massachusetts

Michael Hrabal (Fr., G; Prague, Czechia) started both games of a road sweep of No. 19/20 Minnesota State, posting a 1.51 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. He made 28 saves in Friday’s 6-3 victory and stopped all 32 shots he faced in Saturday’s 1-0 win. He also anchored UMass’ penalty kill as it went a perfect 14-for-14 on the weekend.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Cutter Gauthier, BC (So., F; Scottsdale, Ariz.) Scored a pair of goals in the first period of a 6-1 win over RPI on Friday and added an assist on Saturday against No. 2 Denver at Kelley Rink for a three-point weekend. He had a total of seven shots on goal over the two games and currently has 26 shots on net through four games.

Will Smith, BC (Fr., F; Lexington, Mass.) Registered his first collegiate goal and added an assist in a 6-1 victory over RPI on Friday for his first multi-point performance as an Eagle. He then netted a pair of goals on Saturday night against No. 2 Denver for his first career multi-goal game. He closed the weekend with seven shots on goal and a plus-two rating.

Oskar Jellvik, BC (So., F; Taby, Sweden) Scored a goal in each game against RPI and No. 2 Denver, pushing his goal scoring streak to three games.

Luke Tuch, BU (Sr., F; Baldwinsville, N.Y.) Tallied three points, all in the first period, in the Terriers’ 8-2 win at Notre Dame on Saturday as he set up the game’s opening two goals. In addition, he led the Terriers with seven blocked shots over the weekend.

Macklin Celebrini, BU (Fr., F; Vancouver, B.C.) Registered two goals in the Terriers’ 8-2 win at Notre Dame on Saturday. Celebrini finished the weekend as a plus-one with one blocked shot and 11 shots on goal.

Aiden Celebrini, BU (Fr., D; Vancouver, B.C.) Scored his first collegiate goal in the Terriers’ 8-2 win at Notre Dame on Saturday. He also added an assist to complete a two-point night and finished the weekend as a plus-three.

Shane LaChance, BU (Fr., F; North Andover, Mass.) Netted the first two goals of his Terrier career in Saturday’s 8-2 win at Notre Dame. His first goal came in the first period when he redirected a Gavin McCarthy shot. He then knocked home a rebound during a 2-on-1 early in the second period to push the Terriers’ lead to 6-1. Lachance was a plus-two for the weekend.

Lucas Mercuri, UMass (Jr., F; Montreal, Que.) Had three points in a two-game sweep on the road of No. 19/20 Minnesota State with a goal and two assists. He set up the shorthanded game-winning goal on Friday and added a power-play goal to help UMass put a 6-3 victory away in the third. He added an assist on Saturday’s game winner in a 1-0 victory. He finished plus-one on the weekend and blocked three shots.

Aydar Suniev, UMass (Fr., F; Kazan, Russia) Scored the first two goals of collegiate career in a two-game sweep at No. 19/20 Minnesota State. He opened the scoring in UMass’ 6-3 victory and netted the lone goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win, which came on the power play.

Ben Meehan, UML (Sr., D; Walpole, Mass.) Picked up one assist in each of UMass Lowell’s victories over Colgate.

Chase Stevenson, MC (Gr., F; West Kelowna, B.C.) Scored three goals in a weekend sweep of Clarkson and St. Lawrence.

Mark Hillier, MC (Jr., F; Labrador City, N.L.) Dished out four helpers in a weekend sweep of Clarkson and St. Lawrence.

Cy LeClerc, UNH (So., F; Brentwood, N.H.) Posted two goals and one assist for three points as the Wildcats went 1-1-0 against No. 4 Quinnipiac. He recorded an assist in a 5-2 loss on Friday before scoring two goals, including the overtime winner, in a 5-4 win on Saturday.

Ryan Conmy, UNH (Fr., F; Alexandra, Va.) Totaled one goal and two assists for three points as the Wildcats split with No. 4 Quinnipiac. He scored his first collegiate goal in a 5-2 loss on Friday and then posted two assists for two points on Saturday in the 5-4 overtime win.

Colton Huard, UNH (Jr., D; Foothill Ranch, Calif.) Recorded one goal and two assists for three points on Saturday in a 5-4 overtime win over No. 4 Quinnipiac. He posted two assists during the first period and then scored a power-play goal to tie the game at 4-4 in the second period.

Jaroslav Chmelar, PC (So., F; Nove Mesta nad Matuji, Czechia) Tallied a goal and an assist in Providence’s 4-3 win over No. 2 Denver on Friday and added an assist against RPI on Saturday to extend his point streak to five games. He leads the Friars in scoring with seven points on three goals and four assists in five games this season.

Chase Yoder, PC (Sr., F; Fairview, Texas) Scored two shorthanded goals, one standing as the game-winning strike, in the Friars’ 4-2 win over RPI on Saturday. He also finished the weekend 17-of-30 at the faceoff dot.
