HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

New Hampshire toppelled No. 1 Boston University, 6-4, on Friday night to open the 40th season of Hockey East play. Morgan Winters scored two goals, including the shorthanded game-winning strike, and Ryan Conmy picked up three assists in the victory. The last time UNH defeated the top-ranked team in the nation was a 3-2 win versus Cornell on April 10, 2003 in the national semifinal game in Buffalo, N.Y. The last Wildcat win over BU was a 4-3 defeat of the Terriers on Feb. 14, 2015 as BU had won 12 straight in the series entering Friday’s contest.

Maine swept RPI behind four-point weekends from rookie forwards Bradly Nadeau (2g, 2a) and Josh Nadeau (2g, 2a). It marked the first time the Black Bears have started 2-0-0 since 2018-19 when they swept St. Lawrence to open the year.

Massachusetts earned a split weekend with No. 6 Michigan, earning a 6-3 win on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,412. Freshman forward Jack Musa assisted on five of UMass’s eight goals on the weekend. Vermont took a 3-1 victory in their season opener at St. Lawrence, thanks in part to two goals from Simon Jellus, his first multi-goal game of his career. Interim Head Coach Steve Wiedler became just the second Catamount bench boss to win his debut in program history, following Bill Ruffer in 1963.

Over 56,000 fans attended nine Hockey East home games over first ful weekend of play in the men’s league, including two sold-out crowds and an average capacity of over 93%.

Morgan Winters - New Hampshire

Morgan Winters (So., F; Osprey, Fla.) scored a career-best two goals as New Hampshire defeated No. 1 Boston University on Friday, 6-4. He scored UNH’s fourth goal to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead and then he netted the game-winning strike with a shorthanded goal after stealing the puck in the neutral zone.

Jack Musa - Massachusetts

Jack Musa (Fr., F; Orange Park, Fla.) led UMass in points on the week in a split series against No. 6 Michigan with five assists, setting up five of UMass’ eight goals on the weekend, including three of the six goals the Minutemen scored in the third period in Saturday’s come-from-behind victory over the Wolverines. The six goals in a period set a UMass Hockey East era record. Musa also assisted on both goals in Friday’s setback and he currently leads UMass in scoring with six points through three games.

Connor Kelley - Providence

Connor Kelley (Sr., D; Maple Grove, Minn.) led all Hockey East players this week with a plus-five rating in just one game played this weekend, adding two assists in the Friars’ 7-1 win over Stonehill on Friday. He also registered two blocks and one shot on goal.

Victor Ostman - Maine

Victor Ostman (Sr., G; Danderyd, Sweden) won both of his first two starts of the year, making 28 saves and in a two-game home set with RPI.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Andre Gasseau, BC (So., F: Garden Grove, Calif.) Posted a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over LIU in the Eagles’ home opener on Friday night. His power-play goal in the second period proved to be the game-winner.

Drew Fortescue, BC (Fr., D; Pearl River, N.Y.) Scored his first collegiate goal in the first period on Friday against LIU. He had two shots on goal and finished the 4-2 win with a plus-two rating.

Macklin Celebrini, BU (Fr., F; Vancouver, B.C.) Scored a career-high two goals at New Hampshire on Friday and also had an assist in an exhibition the next night. He has collected four points through his first two games and leads all of Hockey East with three goals.

Aiden Celebrini, BU (Fr., F; Vancouver, B.C.) Notched the first two points of his collegiate career with a pair of assists at New Hampshire on Friday. He also blocked two shots and finished the night as a plus-two rating.

Tom Willander, BU (Fr., D; Stockholm, Sweden) Recorded the primary assist on Luke Tuch’s opening goal on Friday night when Tuch redirected Willander’s shot. Willander then scored his first NCAA goal with a one-timer. Willander was a plus-two in his debut.

Bradly Nadeau, Maine (Fr., F; St-François-de-Madawaska, N.B.) Tallied two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in his collegiate debut, Thursday’s 4-1 win over RPI. He added an assist on Friday night for four points over two games and led Hockey East in shots on the weekend with 13.

Josh Nadeau, Maine (Fr., F; St-François-de-Madawaska, N.B.) Had two assists in his collegiate debut and then added two goals, including the game-winning goal, the next night for a four-point weekend and a sweep of RPI. His two tallies came on the power play.

Grayson Arnott, Maine (So., D; Toronto, Ont.) Had an assist in the season-opener and scored the game-winning goal the next night to help Maine to a sweep of RPI. He registered six shots on goal and two blocked shots on the weekend.

Ryan Ufko, UMass (Jr., D; Smithtown, N.Y.) Factored in the first three goals of UMass’ six-goal third period in Saturday’s 6-3 come-from-behind win over No. 6 Michigan, scoring the first goal on the power play and then assisting the game-tying goal and the go-ahead goal. He finished plus-four in the contest and plus-three on the weekend.

Ryan Conmy, UNH (Fr., F; Alexandria, Va.) Recorded three assists as he made his collegiate debut in the 6-4 win over No. 1 Boston University on Oct. 13. He posted an assist on each of the first three goals for the Wildcats. His three assists and three points lead the team.

Luke Reid, UNH (Sr., D; Warman, Sask.) Scored his first goal of the season in the 6-4 win over No. 1 Boston University on Oct. 13. His goal tied the game at 3-3 in the first period.

Liam Walsh, NU (Gr., F; Bridgeville, Pa.) Opened the scoring for the Huskies en route to a 5-2 victory for Northeastern over Bentley. He added two assists to complete a three-point night. The graduate student went 10-for-13 on face-offs and recorded one block and four shots on goal. He extends his point-streak to eight points in his last five games played.

Dylan Hryckowian, NU (Fr., F; Ile Bizard, Que.) Scored his first collegiate goal in Friday’s 5-2 victory over Bentley. He added an assist for a two-point night with eight shots on goal.

Pito Walton, NU (Gr., D; Peapack, N.J.) Netted a goal and added three shots on goal, two blocks, and a plus-one rating in a 5-2 win over Bentley. He has three points through two games and has scored a goal in every game this season, including in last week’s exhibition against Quinnipiac.

Cameron Whitehead, NU (Fr., G; Orleans, Ont.) Finished with 19 saves in 58 minutes of action in a 5-2 win over Bentley and is now 2-0-0 to start his NCAA career. He holds a .941 save percentage through two games

Luke Krys, PC (Gr., D; Ridgefield, Conn.) Registered a career-high three assists in Providence’s 7-1 win over Stonehill and finished the game with a plus-two rating and five shots on goal.

Guillaume Richard, PC (Jr., D; Cap-Sante, Que.) Notched two assists and was a plus-four in Providence’s 7-1 win over Stonehill on Friday.

Tanner Adams, PC (Fr., F; Northport, N.Y.) Tallied the game-winning goal and added an assist in Providence’s 7-1 win over Stonehill on Friday. He also recorded a game-high six shots on goal.

Simon Jellus, UVM (Jr., F; Ilava, Slovakia) Had his first career two-goal game Friday in the Catamounts season-opening win at St. Lawrence. His second goal of the night stood up as the game-winner, the second of his career. Vermont won its road opener for the first time since 2018.
