HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Five teams are separated by just four points at the top of the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings while two others sit just behind with five and four games in hand entering the stretch run of 2022-23.

UConn opened the Toscano Family Ice Forum, a brand new on-campus hockey-specific facility, in front of a sold out crowd on Saturday night. Northeastern captain Aidan McDonough played spoiler, scoring twice in 2:15 to lift the visiting Huskies over the home team. Goaltender Devon Levi stopped 13 shots in each of the final two frames to slam the door shut and earn his 10th win of the year.

Boston College freshman Andre Gasseau was a one-man show on Saturday as the Eagles earned the first-ever win in Sacred Heart’s new building. Gasseau had a shorthanded goal and two assists, including the primary helper on the overtime winner, in a 3-2 victory.

New Hampshire has won its last three games and four of its last six after toppling No. 17 Massachusetts, 3-1, on Sunday. Rookie Kristaps Skrastins recorded his first collegiate game winner for the Wildcats.

Boston University stayed hot with a pair of wins over nationally ranked teams, downing No. 19/17 UMass and No. 15/14 Cornell. Case McCarthy led BU with six blocked shots against the Big Red, a number that led the entire league for the weekend, to go along with three points.

Parker Ford - Providence

Parker Ford (Sr., F; Wakefield, R.I.) led all Hockey East players last week with four points on a goal and three assists, including one on the power-play game-winner. All four points came in Providence’s 8-3 win over Merrimack on Friday night. Ford also ranked second in the league with 25 wins from the dot over two games.

Andre Gasseau - Boston College
Kristaps Skrastins - New Hampshire

Andre Gasseau (Fr., F; Garden Grove, Calif.) posted a career-best three points in a 3-2 overtime victory at Sacred Heart on Saturday night. He scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway and added two assists, including the primary assist on the overtime winner. He finished the night with a plus-three rating.

Kristaps Skrastins (Fr., F; Grobina, Latvia) recorded his first collegiate game winner in a 3-1 win at No. 17 UMass on Sunday. With the game tied at 1-1, he broke the tie just 2:15 into the third period to deliver UNH its third-straight win and fourth in its last six outings.

Case McCarthy - Boston University

Case McCarthy (Sr., D; Clarence Center, N.Y.), in a pair of Terrier wins,had two assists in a 6-2 outing over No. 19/17 UMass on Friday before securing the primary helper on Sam Stevens’ goal against No. 15/14 Cornell on Saturday. McCarthy led BU with six blocked shots against the Big Red, a number that led the entire league for the weekend. No Hockey East defender had more points, assists or a better plus/minus this past weekend than McCarthy.

Devon Levi - Northeastern

Devon Levi (Jr., G; Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que.) made 30 saves and allowed just one even-strength goal on Saturday night in a 4-3 victory over UConn. He stopped 13 shots in each of the final two periods to shut the door on UConn. His eight conference wins and 401 saves lead all of Hockey East. He ranks second in save percentage (.944) and third overall in goals against average (1.83).


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Marshall Warren, BC (Sr., D; Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) Scored the game-winning goal on Saturday night to beat Sacred Heart, 3-2, in overtime. He added three shots on goal and was plus-one in the victory.

Wilmer Skoog, BU (Sr., F; Tyreso, Sweden) Finished the weekend with a career-high three points, all of which came in the Terriers’ 6-2 win over No. 19/17 UMass. Skoog opened the scoring with a highlight-reel goal before providing the primary assist on both of Devin Kaplan’s goal.

Devin Kaplan, BU (Fr., F; Bridgewater, N.J.) Tallied a career-high three points thanks to a career-best two goals in the Terriers’ 6-2 win over No. 19/17 UMass. He had the primary assist on the opening goal of the game before tallying the final two markers of the contest.

Carl Berglund, UML (Sr., F; Hammaro, Sweden) Posted a three-point weekend in the River Hawks’ two-game split with the Maine Black Bears. He notched an assist in Friday’s 2-1 win over Maine and added two more helpers on Saturday to end with a team-best three points in two games. Additionally, Berglund registered three blocks in the two games and finished with a plus-two rating.

Marek Korencik, UML (Sr., D; Zilina, Sweden) Posted a career-best two points (1g, 1a) in Friday’s 2-1 win over the Black Bears. The two-point night marked Korencik’s first multi-point performance and also marked the first time in his career he posted goals in back-to-back games. In addition to his offensive production, the defenseman ended the weekend with two blocks and a cumulative plus-three rating.

Alex Jefferies, MC (Jr., F; Lunenburg, Mass.) Tallied a goal and an assist in Merrimack’s 3-0 win over Providence on Saturday, snapping a four-game winless skid for the Warriors.

Trevor Griebel, MC (Fr., D; Tampa, Fla.) Scored the game-winning goal in Merrimack’s 3-0 win over Providence on Saturday, his second career goal and point.

Hugo Ollas, MC (So., G; Linkoping, Sweden) Made 35 saves for his third shutout of the season in Merrimack’s 3–0 win over Providence on Saturday. He also made 14 saves on 17 shots in relief on Friday.

Alex Gagne, UNH (So., D; Bedford, N.H.) Was a member of a defense that only allowed one goal in the 3-1 win at No. 17 UMass. He clinched the win when he scored an empty net goal from center ice.

David Fessenden, UNH (Sr., G; Parker, Colo.) Made 27 saves and allowed one goal in the 3-1 win at No. 17 UMass. He posted a .964 save percentage and a 1.01 goals against average. He has won three straight games.

Aidan McDonough, NU (Sr., F; Milton, Mass.) Scored twice at UConn on Saturday in a 4-3 win, including the game-tying goal and one that gave the Huskies their first lead of the game in a span of 2:15 of the third period. He added four shots on net in the outing. He currently leads Hockey East with 10 goals, 21 points, 1.62 points per game, 54 shots, and five power-play goals.

Taige Harding, PC (So., D; St. Albert, Alta.) Was tied for first among all Hockey East defensemen with three points and led that group with two goals. All three points came in Friday night’s 8-3 win at Merrimack. Harding also finished the weekend with a plus-two rating.
