AMESBURY, Mass. - The Hockey East Association today announced the 2021-22 Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team and six other season-long awards as voted by the men’s league’s 11 head coaches. The awards come as part of the celebration of the 37th annual Hockey East Tournament, which begins tonight.
The 2021-22 Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team consists of eight players, including two unanimous selections in Northeastern goaltender Devon Levi (Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Que.) and Massachusetts defenseman Scott Morrow (Darien, Conn.). The team is rounded out by defenders Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich./Boston University), Ryan Ufko (Long Island, N.Y./Massachusetts), and David Breazeale (Jenison, Mich./Maine), and forwards Matt Crasa (New York, N.Y./UMass Lowell), Justin Hryckowian (L’Île-Bizard, Que./Northeastern), and Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass./Northeastern).
Also recognized is a pair of defensive awards, as Northeastern senior captain Jordan Harris (Haverhill, Mass.) has been named Hockey East’s Best Defensive Defenseman and UConn senior Jachym Kondelik (Budějovice, Czech Republic) was voted Gladiator Custom Mouthguards Best Defensive Forward.
Two statistical awards have been formally announced, including the league’s top scorer in Massachusetts senior forward Bobby Trivigno (Setauket, N.Y./14g, 18a, 32p). The PNC Bank Three Stars Award was captured by Northeastern’s Levi, who compiled the highest total number of points earned when named a first, second, or third star of the game in Hockey East contests.
Hockey East’s two sportsmanship awards have been bestowed upon New Hampshire senior forward Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.), who will be presented with the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award, given by the league to one player who has consistently demonstrated superior conduct and sportsmanship on the ice. The Massachusetts Minutemen will be acknowledged with the Charlie Holt Team Sportsmanship Award for accruing the fewest average penalty minutes per Hockey East game for the second consecutive year.
Hockey East will announce the 2021-22 All-Star Teams on Friday, March 11 at 11:00 a.m. The league will then announce finalists for the Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year awards on Monday, March 12.
The 2022 Hockey East Men’s Tournament begins tonight with three Opening Round games, all at 7:00 p.m. New Hampshire visits Boston College on NESN, while Vermont travels to Providence on NESN+. Maine visits Merrimack in the third contest. The playoffs continue with Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 12 on the campus of the highest seeds - Northeastern, Massachusetts, UMass Lowell, and UConn - as part of this year’s single-elimination affair. The Hockey East semifinals are set tentatively set for 4:00pm and 7:30pm on Friday, March 18 at TD Garden in Boston, while the 37th championship game will be played Saturday, March 19 at 7:00pm.
