HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES
UConn claimed a 5-4 victory at Boston College, its first-ever road win in Chestnut Hill. Kevin O’Neil scored the game-winning goal with 34 seconds left in the third period to deliver the win. For the Eagles, Patrick Giles scored his ninth goal of the season and added an assist for a multi-point night as his goal tied the game at 4-4 on a partial breakaway with under a minute left in regulation.
Maine earned a weekend split with Alaska Fairbanks, thanks in part to the offense provided by Lynden Breen. Breen powered Maine’s offense as he scored two goals and dished out two assists during the Black Bears’ 4-2 Saturday victory. The forward scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game-winning goal. It was the first four-point game of Breen’s career.
Boston University swept a two-game set with Arizona State by scores of 7-1 and 5-2. Ty Gallagher lit the lamp in each game of the Terriers’ weekend sweep, while Jay O'Brien led the team with five points on two goals and three helpers.
Devon Levi continued to shine in net for the Northeastern Huskies, pitching two shutouts in a weekend sweep of LIU. The sophomore made 44 saves in his two wins, his seventh and eighth shutouts of the season. He was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week for his effort, his sixth weekly award this season.
New Hampshire earned a 5-1 win over Clarkson on Saturday, thanks in part to Colton Huard career-best three assists and four points, including the game-winning goal. UNH sophomore goalie Jake Moniz made two saves during the final minute of play in his collegiate debut to secure the win.
Merrimack’s Mark Hillier dominated the game Saturday against Bentley
at Lawler Rink, a 4-1 win. He scored his first collegiate goal late in the first
period and assisted on another to notch his first career multi-point game.
HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lynden Breen - Maine
Lynden Breen (So., F; Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B.) powered the entirety of
Maine’s offense as he scored two goals and dished out two assists during
the Black Bears’ 4-2 Saturday victory over Alaska Fairbanks. The forward
scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game-winning goal. It was
the first four-point game of Lynden’s career.
PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ty Gallagher - Boston University
Ty Gallagher (Fr., D; Clarkston, Mich.) lit the lamp in each game of the
Terriers’ weekend sweep of Arizona State. He was also impactful in the
defensive end, blocking four shots and finishing as a team-best plus-four
over the two games.
HOCKEY EAST DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Colton Huard - New Hampshire
Colton Huard (Fr., D; Foothill Ranch, Calif.) tallied a goal and three helpers
for four points and was a leader of a defense that only allowed one goal in
a 5-1 win over Clarkson. His three assists and four points were both career
bests. This was his first multi-point game of his career. He scored the
game-winner which was the first of his career. The last time a UNH player recorded four points or more was Angus Crookshank on Feb. 6, 2021
against UMass Lowell. He has two goals and seven assists for nine points
this season.
HOCKEY EAST GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Devon Levi - Northeastern
Devon Levi (So., G; Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Que.) blanked LIU on the
weekend making 44 saves in two wins, his seventh and eighth shutouts
of the season. His eight perfect games improves his new school record of
single-season shutouts and is the fourth most blank sheets in a season by
an NCAA netminder all time. His eight shutouts are tied for eighth place in
the NCAA record book, as the single-season record is 12 shutouts.
HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS
Patrick Giles, BC (Sr., F; Chevy Chase, Md.) Scored his ninth goal of the season and added an assist for a multi-point night against UConn on Saturday. His goal tied the game at 4-4 on a partial breakaway with under a minute left in regulation. Established a new career-high in scoring with 14 points on the year.
Jay O'Brien, BU (Jr., F; Hingham, Mass.) led the Terriers with five points in a weekend sweep of Arizona State, including a one-goal, two-assist effort to match his career high with three points in Saturday’s 5-2 victory. O’Brien scored a highlight-reel breakaway goal on Friday as part of a two-point performance. He tied for the team lead in, goals, assists and shots on goal while also finishing as a plus-three this weekend.
Drew Commesso, BU (So., G; Norwell, Mass.) In a weekend sweep of Arizona State, he made 62 saves, including 36 in Saturday’s 5-2 win. Commesso finished the weekend with a .954 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average.
Kevin O'Neil, UC (Gr., F; Latham, N.Y.) Scored the game-winning goal with 34 seconds left in the third period to deliver the Huskies a 5-4 road win at #18 Boston College, the Huskies first-ever win at Kelley Rink. O’Neil scored in his second-straight game.
Mark Hillier, MC (Fr., F; Labrador City, N.L.) Dominated the game Saturday against Bentley at Lawler Rink, a 4-1 win. He scored his first collegiate goal late in the first period and assisted on another to notch his first career multi-point game. He also tied for the game-high with six shots on net and a plus-two rating.
Hugo Ollas, MC (Fr., G; Linköping, Sweden) Came just moments away from his first career shutout Saturday in the Warriors’ win over Bentley at Lawler Rink, before the Falcons scored a power-play goal with just 1:35 remaining. Ollas turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he saw to earn his fourth career win.
Liam Devlin, UNH (Fr., F; Needham, Mass.) Scored two goals and posted one assist for three points as the Wildcats took a 5-1 win over Clarkson at the Whittemore Center. His two goals and three points were both career bests. This was his first career multiple-point game of his career. He scored the first and fourth goals of the game and added an assist on UNH’s final goal. He has seven goals and three assists for 10 points this season.
Mike Robinson, UNH (Gr., G; Bedford, N.H.) Went 1-0-0 on the week as he earned the win in the 5-1 triumph over Clarkson. He only allowed one goal and made 18 saves for a .947 save percentage and 1.01 goals against average. He has 2,195 career saves which are eighth all-time at UNH.
Ty Jackson, NU (So., F; Oakville, Ont.) Scored the lone goal in the 1-0 Friday victory over LIU, and then followed that up with one goal and one assist in the 6-0 rout of the Sharks on Saturday.
