HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES
UMass Lowell toppled Maine, 2-0, in Portland, Maine in the only league game of the weekend. Owen Savory registered 29-saves shutout, his third of the season and ninth of his career. Savory now leads the conference with a .954 save percentage and 1.10 goals against average while his .954 save percentage is the best in the NCAA and he ranks second in the nation with his 1.10 goals against average.
New Hampshire won a pair of non-conference games, including a 1-0 road victory at #16 Harvard on Friday, as the Wildcats improved to 3-3-0 on the year against ranked opponents. Mike Robinson went 2-0-0 on the week only allowing two goals as he made 47 saves for a .959 save percentage. He posted his eighth career shutout in a 1-0 win at #16 Harvard with 27 saves. Robinson has now been named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Week for two consecutive weeks.
Providence rallied from a three-goal deficit for the third time this season to win, downing Dartmouth, 7-4 Friday night on NESN. Brett Berard posted six points over two games last weekend, becoming the third straight Friar to be named Hockey East Player of the Week. He had a goal and two assists in each game, including a 4-0 victory over Brown in Mayor’s Cup.
Northeastern swept a home-and-home series against RPI, improving to 8-1-1 in their last 10 outings .Devon Levi picked up his second straight rookie of the week away after going 2-0-0 and allowing just two goals on 47 shots. Levi now owns a .950 save percentage, which is second in the entire NCAA. His 1.43 goals against average is sixth in the nation.
Merrimack earned a split on the week against a pair of non-conference foes. Filip Forsmark scored twice Tuesday at Holy Cross to lift the Warriors past the Crusaders by a 3-2 tally.
William Lemay and Joe Leahy scored 1:57 apart in the early stages of the first period and Will Zapernick had three points as Vermont earned its first regulation road
win of the season defeating Dartmouth, 3-2, Sunday evening in non-conference
action from Thompson Arena.
HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brett Berard - Providence
Brett Berard (So., F; East Greenwich, R.I.) posted six points over two
games this weekend, notching a goal and two assists in each game in wins
over Dartmouth and Brown. On Friday, Berard got the Friars on the board
and spurred a comeback from 3-0 down to win 7-4. On Saturday in the
Mayor’s Cup at Brown, he scored the game-winning goal and added two
assists. The sophomore leads Hockey East in scoring with 21 points on 10
goals and 11 assists. Berard is the third straight Friar to be named Hockey
East Player of the Week.
PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Devon Levi - Northeastern
Devon Levi (So., G; Dollard-des-Armeaux, Que.) picks up his second
straight rookie of the week away after going a perfect 2-0-0 last weekend
in a home-and-home set with RPI. The netminder allowed just one goal
in each win over the Engineers in a weekend sweep, making 45 saves
total. Levi now owns a .950 save percentage, which is second in the entire
NCAA. His 1.43 goals against average is sixth in the nation.
HOCKEY EAST DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Lucas - Vermont
Andrew Lucas (Jr., D; Alexandria, Va.) dished out three assists for Vermont in a split weekend against ECAC Hockey foes Yale and Dartmouth.
The Catamount captain set up two goals in a span of 1:57 on Sunday at
Dartmouth, getting his team out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period. He
also backed a Vermont defense that blocked 11 shots.
HOCKEY EAST GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Mike Robinson - New Hampshire
Mike Robinson (Sr., G; Bedford, N.H.) ent 2-0-0 on the week only allowing two goals as he made 47 saves for a .959 save percentage. He posted
his eighth career shutout in a 1-0 win at No. 16 Harvard with 27 saves. He
then made 20 saves as UNH defeated Holy Cross, 3-2 in overtime. New
Hampshire is now 3-3-0 against ranked teams this season. Robinson has
now been named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Week for two consecutive weeks.
HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS
Brian Carrabes, BU (Fr., F; North Andover, Mass.) Netted a terrific goal on Saturday in his first-ever Red Hot Hockey, beating the Cornell goalie with a wicked wrist shot. Carrabes was a plus-one at Madison Square Garden and generated four shots on goal.
Case McCarthy, BU (Jr., D; Clarence Center, N.Y.) Lit the lamp against #10 Cornell on Saturday night. He finished the game with three shots on goal and was on the ice for all four of the Terriers’ goals.
Artem Shlaine, UConn (So., F; Moscow, Russia) Had a hand in three of the Huskies six goals, scoring once and assisting on two more for a career-best three-point night in UConn’s win over Colgate. Shlaine set up the game’s first goal, a Marc Gatcomb score. He opened the second period setting up Nick Capone on a 2-on-1 for a 3-1 lead , then scored on the power play, his first goal of the season.
Harrison Rees, UConn (Jr., D; Oakville, Ont.) Scored his third goal of the season to cap off a 6-1 win over Colgate at home on Saturday. He also blocked a pair of shots.
Darion Hanson, UConn (Gr., G; East Bethel, Minn.) Made 31 saves and kept Colgate off the scoreboard for the second and third periods as the Huskies grabbed a 6-1 win at home. Hanson made 16 saves in the 2nd and 11 in the 3rd to earn his eighth win of the year.
Blake Wells, UML (Jr., F; Blackie, Alta.) Netted the game-winning goal in the River Hawks 2-0 blanking of the Maine Black Bears on Saturday night in Portland. The goal marked Wells’ first of the season and third of his career as well as his first collegiate game-winning goal. Logged a plus-two rating in the game as well as one block.

Max Newton, MC (Gr., F; Vancouver, B.C.) Merrimack’s captain stretched his point streak to five games during the week with an assist Tuesday at Holy Cross and a goal Saturday against Union. He got the primary assist on Alex Jefferies’ first period goal against the Crusaders, then netted Merrimack’s first tally of the evening Saturday in North Andover. Newton’s five-game point streak now includes three goals and three assists for six points.
Filip Engaras, UNH (Sr., F; Stockholm, Sweden) Posted one goal and assist for two points on Saturday as New Hampshire earned a weekend non-conference sweep with a 3-2 overtime win against Holy Cross. His goal was the overtime winner on and end-to-end breakaway.
Will Margel, UNH (Fr., F; Potomac, Md.) Scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game at 1-1 in a 3-2 overtime win over Holy Cross on Nov. 27.
Aidan McDonough, NU (Jr., F; Milton, Mass.) Tallied two goals and added an assist in a weekend sweep over RPI to move into a tie for second place in the NCAA in goals scored this season with 13.
Matt Choupani, NU (Fr., F; Baie d’urfe, Que.) Potted the game-winning goal and added an assist in a victory over RPI on Sunday.
Austin Cain, PC (Gr., G; Kantana, Ont.) Earned his first start as a Friar on Saturday at Brown and recorded his first-career shutout after stopping 24 shots. Over three appearances this season, Cain has stopped all 31 shots he has faced.
