Hockey East Well Represented at NHL All-Star Weekend
Nine Alumni to Participate in All Star Game; Six PWHL Players Also Featured

AMESBURY, Mass. - The Hockey East Association is the most represented college hockey conference at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game, as nine alumni were named to the rosters that will participate in annual event on February 1-3, 2024 in Toronto, Canada. Additionally, six PWHL players were selected to the 3-on-3 showcase that is set for Thursday, February 1 in conjunction with NHL All-Star weekend.

In total, 12 college hockey alumni were named to the NHL All-Star weekend, nine of them having played in Hockey East. Those players include Thatcher Demko (Boston College/Vancouver), Jack Eichel (Boston University/Vegas), Connor Hellebuyck (UMass Lowell/Winnipeg), Clayton Keller (Boston University/Arizona), Cale Makar (Massachusetts/Colorado), Jake Oettinger (Boston University/Dallas), Jeremy Swayman (Maine/Boston), Brady Tkachuk (Boston University/Ottawa), and Frank Vatrano (Massachusetts/Anaheim). Makar is also set to compete in the Skills Competition on Feb. 2 while former Maine standout and Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery was tabbed to be coach of one of the four teams.

To date, 92 Hockey East products representing every member program have competed in the NHL in 2023-24, the most of any college hockey conference. Hockey East is responsible for nearly one-third of the 283 college hockey alumni in the NHL this season. In 2022-23, 107 Hockey East alumni appeared in at least one NHL game and the league claimed seven 2023 NHL All-Stars.

The six PWHL players represent the three most-recent Hockey East Tournament champion programs and four of the six PWHL teams. The players include Alex Carpenter (Boston College/New York), Kendall Coyne Schofield (Northeastern/Minnesota), Aerin Frankel (Northeastern/Boston), Megan Keller (Boston College/Boston), Alina Mueller (Northeastern/Boston), Marie-Philip Poulin (Boston University/Montreal).

The 3-on-3 showcase is a part of All-Star Thursday on Feb. 1. Teams of 12 (10 skaters, two goalies) selected by the top professional league in women’s hockey were named in honor of PWHL advisory board members Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss. The rosters have won a combined 146 Olympic medals, 46 at the IIHF Women’s World Championship and 17 NCAA Division I Championships.
