Thanksgiving Break Features Several In-Season Tournaments

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

UConn vaulted to the top of the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings with a sweep of Holy Cross, extending its winning streak to eight straight games. Megan Warrener earned both wins to remain undefeated and improve to 5-0-0 on the season.

Maine traveled to Burlington and took a sweep of No. 12 Vermont, 3-0 and 3-2. Ida Kuoppala regained the Hockey East lead in goals, scoring three times for 13 on the season, and is now second in the NCAA. Julia Bachetti earned her first NCAA shutout with 19 saves on Friday.

Merrimack took a 1-0 win at Providence on Friday night, getting a goal from Mary Edmonds and a 37-save shutout from Calli Hogarth. Merrimack now sits just one point out of third place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Boston College downed rival Boston University, 5-3, in an early-morning Friday tilt.Sammy Smigliani registered two points (1g, 1a) in the win, bringing her season total to 11 points on five goals and six assists. She won 17 of 24 faceoffs and is currently tied for eighth in the nation in faceoff wins (174). The Hockey East Game of the Week on NESN comes early this week, as

Northeastern vists Vermont Tuesday night at 6pm. The clash will feature the top two programs from the final 2023-24 standings and is the first television game from Gutterson Fieldhouse since extensive renovations to the building.

Boston College and Northeastern are set to face off in Gloucester, Massachusetts on Saturday at Talbot Rink, the home rink of former Northeastern and Team USA Olympic Coach Ben Smith.

Ida Kuoppala - Maine

Ida Kuoppala (Gr., F; Pedersore, Finland) found the back of the net three times last weekend, including one shorthanded goal and both game-winning strikes, to help Maine sweep No. 14 Vermont on the road. Kuoppala currently leads Hockey East in goals (13) and points (18) and is second in the NCAA in goals.

Julia Bachetti - Maine

Julia Bachetti (Fr., G; Tecumseh, Ont.) posted her first collegiate shutout with a 19-save, 3-0 win on Friday at No. 14 Vermont. She then made 26 saves in a 3-2 road win the next day.

Elise Morphy - Maine
Camryn Wong - UConn

Elise Morphy (Sr., D; Regina, Sask.) dished out two helpers in a road sweep of No. 14 Vermont, assisting on both game-winning goals. She also blocked two shots while helping the Maine defense go a perfect six-for-six on the penalty kill. The Maine captain appeared in her 100th career game in a Black Bears’ sweater over the weekend.

Camryn Wong (Gr., D; Vancouver, B.C.) finished the weekend with one goal and one assist for two points and compiled an NCAA-best plus-five rating in two games, helping UConn to a sweep of Holy Cross and first place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Megan Warrener - UConn

Megan Warrener (Jr., G; Stoney Creek, Ont.) wrapped a weekend sweep of Holy Cross with 32 saves in two games while allowing just one goal. With the two wins, Warrener remains undefeated and improves to 5-0-0 on the season.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Sammy Smigliani, BC (Gr., F; La Jolla, Calif.) Registered two points (1g, 1a) in a 5-3 win over rival Boston University on Friday morning, bringing her season total to 11 points on five goals and six assists. She won 17 of 24 faceoffs and is currently tied for eighth in the nation in faceoff wins (174).

Grace Campbell, BC (So., G; Kingston, Md.) Stopped 27 saves in Friday morning’s win over the Terriers. Campbell now boasts a 2.81 goals against average and .909 save percentage.

Lacey Martin, BU (Sr., F; Minnetonka, Minn.) Posted an assist on three of BU’s four goals last weekend. Assisted on BU’s second and third goals at BC, the third of which coming on the power-play as a game-tying goal. She also set up BU’s power-play strike at Providence and leads the Terriers with 13 points (7g, 6a).

Neely Nicholson, BU (Fr., F; Pittsburgh, Pa.) Netted her second power-play goal of the year to tie Friday’s game at Boston College at 3-3 and set up the game-tying strike at Providence the next day in an eventual 2-1 setback.

Maggie Hanzel, BU (Jr., D; Rochester, Minn.) Scored her first career power-play goal on Saturday at Providence.

Brooke Campbell, UConn (So., F; Essex, Ont.) Posted a goal and an assist for two points on the weekend to help UConn to a sweep of Holy Cross and lift the Huskies into first place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Alexia Moreau, HC (So., F; Louisville, Que.) Scored the lone Crusader goal on the weekend that took the lead in the first period of the second game against UConn.

Haley Ryan, Maine (Fr., F; Conception Bay South, N.L.) Posted two assists to help Maine to a road sweep of No. 14 Vermont.

Rahel Enzler, Maine (Sr., F; Zug, Switzerland) Handed out three assists in a weekend road sweep of No. 14 Vermont, including setting up both a power-play and shorthanded strike in Saturday’s 3-2 win. She currently leads Hockey East with 12 assists.

Calli Hogarth, MC (So., G; Barrie, Ont.) Made 37 saves to pick up a 1-0 shutout win over the Providence College Friars on Friday. It was her third blank sheet of the season.

Mary Edmonds, MC (Gr., F; Fairfield, Conn.) Scored the lone goal of a 1-0 win at Providence on Friday night.
