HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES
UConn opened the Toscano Family Ice Forum, a brand new on-campus hockey-specific facility, with a weekend sweep in league play. The Huskies toppled Merrimack and No. 12/11 Vermont to keep pace in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings with 30 points, just four behind Boston College for fourth place.
Northeastern superstar Alina Mueller was credited with four assists last weekend in a Husky sweep, moving into a tie with former Husky Kendall Coyne for the all-time career lead in points in Hockey East play with 167 (64g, 103a).
Boston College goaltender Abigail Levy stopped 63 of 64 shots over the weekend, allowing just one goal in two league games and zero in five-on-five play, to help the Eagles maintain a four-point lead for fourth place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.
Holy Cross earned a split weekend with a 2-1 win over Boston University on Friday before falling to Boston College on Saturday. Mary Edmonds scored both Crusaders goals, including the overtime winner.
New Hampshire’s offense exploded for a 5-4 win over Maine on Friday. Emily Pinto scored two goals, including the game-winning tally
with 79 seconds remaining, and had an assist. The two goals and
three points both marked season highs and also matched her career
highs in both stats.
HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gwyneth Philips - Northeastern
Gwyneth Philips (Sr., G; Athens, Ohio) earned back-to-back shutouts for the Huskies in a sweep in league play. The senior tallied 29
saves against BC in a 1-0 win and 21 saves over Maine to claim a
5-0 victory. Philips has now posted three shutouts in a row and has
yet to allow a goal in 2023. Her eight shutouts on the season are tied
for first in the NCAA and she was named to the National Goaltender
of the Year Watch List last week.
PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brooke Campbell - UConn
Brooke Campbell (Fr., F; Essex, Ont.) helped UConn usher in a
new era of program history, scoring a goal and adding an assist to
power the Huskies to a weekend sweep. The two wins marked the
first victories in the brand new on-campus ice area in Storrs, both
coming against league opponents Merrimack and nationally-ranked
Vermont.
ARMY ROTC DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Deirdre Mullowney - Boston College
Deirdre Mullowney (Sr., D; Newton, Mass.) sored two goals in BC’s
3-0 road win on Saturday, including the game-winning goal. She
helped limit opponents to one goal in two games, including blocking
six shots against Northeastern. She played a key part of the BC penalty-kill unit that went perfect on the weekend, going 5-for-5 against
Northeastern and 1-for-1 at Holy Cross. The senior added three
shots on goal and a plus-three rating on the weekend.
STOP IT GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Abigail Levy - Boston College
Abigail Levy (Gr., G; Congers, N.Y.) stopped 63 of 64 shots on the
weekend, including 42 at Northeastern in a 1-0 setback and a 21-save shutout at Holy Cross the next game. She posted a .984 save
percentage and 0.49 goals against average over the weekend.
HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS
Kate Ham, BC (Fr., F; Hingham, Mass.) Had six shots on goal and one blocked shot on the weekend,.
Claire Peterson, UConn (Gr., D; San Jose, Calif.) Handed out three helpers to power the UConn offense in a sweep of Merrimack and Vermont.
Camryn Wong (Jr., D; Vancouver, B.C.) dished out two primary assists, one on the power-play, and scored a goal with the man-advantage during a weekend sweep for UConn. The Huskies began a new chapter in pro- gram history, winning both of the first two games in the Toscano Family Ice Forum, a brand-new on-campus facility in Storrs.
Luisa Welcke, Maine (Fr., F; Heidelberg, Germany) Scored Maine’s first goal and the first goal of the game in a 5-4 setback to New Hampshire.
Emma Lange, Maine (Gr., D; Goshen, Conn.) Scored Maine’s fourth goal 15:33 into the third period to tie the game for Maine in an eventual 5-4 loss against New Hampshire.
Katie Kaufman, MC (Sr., F; Lake Elmo, Minn.) Netted her 10th goal to reach double digits for the second consecutive year in her 100th game for the Warriors in a 5-2 Merrimack loss to Providence on Saturday.
Sophie McKinley, MC (Fr., F; Vernon, B.C.) Found the back of the net twice this weekend, once in each game against UConn and Providence, and added in assist for three points.
Payten Evans, MC (Fr., D; Calgary, Alta.) Earned the primary assist on a power-play tally on Saturday to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead over Providence on Saturday.
Emily Pinto, UNH (Gr., F; Mulmur, Ont.) Scored two goals, including the game-winning tally with 79 seconds remaining, and had an assist to propel UNH to a 5-4 victory Jan. 13 at the Whittemore Center. The two goals and three points both marked season highs and also matched her career highs in both stats.
Alina Mueller, NU (Gr., F; Winterthur, Switzerland) Posted four points off four assists as she helped lead the Huskies to a 2-0-0 weekend. After being credited with an assist on Friday’s 1-0 overtime win, Mueller posted a three-assist performance, also getting an assist on the game-winner.
Megan Carter, NU (Sr., D; Milton, Ont.) Registered two points in a 2-0-0 weekend for the Huskies and anchored a Husky defense that allowed zero goals. Carter posted a multi-point performance in the 5-0 victory over Maine, tallying the game-winning goal and an assist. She also posted one blocked shot in the 1-0 overtime victory over BC.
