HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Boston College ripped off a 3-0-0 week, including a 3-1 victory at Northeastern in the Beanpot semifinals, and a six-point weekend in league play. The Eagles were backboned by 104 saves from Abigail Levy and powered by five points (3g, 2a) from Abby Newhook and six points (2g, 4a) from Alexie Guay over the three outings. The Eagles face Harvard in the Beanpot title game Tuesday at Northeastern.

Vermont swept Maine to win their ninth straight game Saturday afternoon defeating Hailey Burns scored the game-winning goal as UVM set a program record with its 19th win of the season and maintained their three-point advantage over UConn for second place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Northeastern’s Maureen Murphy posted a five-point outing Friday in a 5-0 win over Merrimack, ending the Huskies’ two-game skid. She had two goals and three assists in her second five-point outing of the year. With a pair of wins against Maine this weekend, Northeastern can clinch the outright regular season title.

Providence swept a three-game set with Holy Cross last week, including two overtime wins, lifting the Friars into seventh place in the Army ROTC Hockey East standings as they vie for a home game in the Hockey East Women’s Tournament opening round.

Maureen Murphy - Northeastern

Maureen Murphy (Sr., F; Buffalo, N.Y.) tallied two goals and three assists in a single game as she helped the Huskies rebound from a two-game skid with a 5-0 win over Merrimack, getting involved in each of the Huskies’ goals. It is Murphy’s second five-point outing of the season. Murphy leads all Hockey East players with 35 points and is tied for the league-lead with 17 goals.


PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Abby Newhook - Boston College

Abby Newhook (Fr., F; St. John’s, N.L.) racked up five points on three goals and two assists in a 3-0-0 week for Boston College, scoring one goal in each win. She assisted on the game-winning goal Tuesday night at Northeastern, helping to lift the Eagles into the Beanpot title game. She finished with 10 shots on goal and a plus-five rating.

Alexie Guay - Boston College

Alexie Guay (Jr., D; Magog, Que.) helped BC to a 3-0-0 week, putting up six points on two goals and four assists. She scored two goals to help BC to a win at then-#3 Northeastern in the Beanpot semifinals on Tuesday. She then had three assists in a win at UNH on Friday and added another helper in a shutout win over BU on Saturday. She blocked five shots and fired seven shots on goal. Her tallies included one power-play goal and one game-winning goal and she finished as a plus-four.

Abigail Levy - Boston College

Abigail Levy (Sr., G; Congers, N.Y.) earns her second straight Goal- tender of the Week nod after she backstopped BC to a 3-0-0 week. She stopped 104 of 108 shots she faced for a .963 save percentage and 1.33 goals against average. The senior netminder had 49 saves in BC’s 3-1 win at Northeastern Tuesday in the Beanpot semifinals and earned a 32-save shutout against BU.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Mackenna Parker, BU (Sr., F; Clavet, Sask.) Scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to force overtime against No. 10 UConn before securing the shootout winner that gave BU an extra point in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Danielle Fox, UConn (Sr., F; Unionville, Ont.) Had a great weekend for the Huskies with four total points, including a hat trick on Saturday afternoon in a 5-0 win at New Hampshire. She added one assist in a 1-1 draw with Boston University Friday night.

Megan Warrener, UConn (Fr., G; Stony Creek, Ont.) Posted a 16-save shutout Saturday in a 5-0 win over the University of New Hampshire.

Bryn Saarela, HC (So., F; Denver, Colo.) Recorded a power-play goal and an assist while also blocking six shots over three games against Providence.

Emilie Fortunato, HC (Fr., D; Laval, Que.) Netted her first collegiate goal, a power-play strike, in an overtime affair against Providence on Saturday. The rookie blueliner also blocked four shots on the week.

Jada Brenon, HC (Sr., G; Pendelton, N.Y.) Notched a career-high 56 saves on Saturday against Providence, the most by a Hockey East goaltender this season in a single game. She followed that up with a 41-save showing against the Friars on Sunday. Started all three games against Providence this week, posting a 2.91 goals-against average with a .933 save percentage.
