Northeastern Extends Winning Streak

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

UConn swept Boston College to improve to 11-4-2 in Hockey East play and currently sit six points ahead of third-place Boston University in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings. The Huskies shut out the Eagles, 3-0, at home off the backing of 20 saves from senior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle. The next night, graduate student and captain Natalie Snodgrass set up the game-tying goal with 23 seconds left in regulation to force overtime before burying the game-winning goal 3:39 into the extra frame. UConn has now won five in a row.

Maine swept Holy Cross in a pair of matinees that were postponed due to health and safety protocols. Ida Kuoppala factored in on both game-winning goals, striking for the win on Monday, Jan. 10 and following up with a three-point game, including a game-winning assist, on Tuesday. Loryn Porter stopped 47 of 49 shots she faced.

Northeastern won its 11th straight game and is unbeaten in its last 18 after a 3-1 win at Boston University. After the Huskies and Terriers both had their regularly scheduled series postponed, the two moved a game from next week to Saturday in order to stay active.

The women’s series between Vermont and Holy Cross, previously scheduled for Jan. 13-14, has been re- scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 17-18. Both games will begin at 1:00pm at Holy Cross.

Natalie Snodgrass - UConn

Ida Kuoppala (Jr., F; Pedersore, Finland) scored the game-winning goal against Holy Cross on Monday, Jan. 10. Followed up with a three-point game on Tuesday against Holy Cross, scoring one goal and adding two assists, including setting up the decisive tally.

Natalie Snodgrass (Gr., F; Eagan, Minn.) scored two goals, including Saturday’s overtime game-winning goal, and added an assist to power UConn to a two-game sweep of Boston College. The graduate student also set up the game-tying goal on Saturday with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra frame.


PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Abby Newhook - Boston College

Abby Newhook (Fr., F; St. John’s, Newfoundland) registered her sixth multi-point game of the season with one goal and one assist on Saturday in a 3-2 overtime setback. She also had a game-high six shots on goal to finish the weekend with two points and eight shots on goal.

Taylor Wabick - UConn

Taylor Wabick (Gr., D; Winnipeg, Man.) dished out two assists and blocked four shots in a pair of wins over Boston College. The graduate student now leads UConn with 16 helpers on the year. Wabick anchored a defense that shut out the Eagles on Friday and also fired five shots on goal between the two games.

Samantha Carpentier-Yelle - UConn

Samantha Carpentier-Yelle (Sr., G; Bromont, Que.) played every minute in two back-to-back victories for the Huskies that resulted in two wins over Boston College for the #10 Huskies. The senior backstop recorded 49 total saves, including a 20-save shutout on Friday in a 3-0 win. She turned aside 29 shots the next night, including four in overtime, to secure the sweep and improve to 10-3-1 on the year.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Lacey Martin, BU (So., F; Minnetonka, Minn.) Lit the lamp against No. 3 Northeastern on Saturday. Martin has averaged a point per game over her last five appearances, notching two goals and adding three assists during that stretch.

Julia Shaunessy, BU (So., D; Marshfield, Mass.) Recorded the primary helper on the Terriers’ lone goal against No. 3 Northeastern on Saturday.

Kate Stuart, BU (Sr., G; Chilliwack, B.C.) Made a career-high 44 saves for the Terriers against No. 3 Northeastern in a strong individual effort. Stuart’s previous career best for saves in a game was on Oct. 12, 2019, when she made 43 stops at New Hampshire.

Darci Johal, HC (Jr., F; Burnaby, B.C.) Dished out a pair of assists during Holy Cross’ series at Maine. She now leads the team with eight points (6g, 2a) on the year.

Loryn Porter, ME (Gr., G; North Bay, Ont.) stopped 47 of 49 shots faced against Holy Cross, allowing just one goal in each of a two-game sweep of the Crusaders. She stopped 16 says in Monday’s 2-1 win before turning aside 31 in a 4-1 victory the next day.

Chloe Aurard, NU (Sr., F; Villard-De-Lans, France) Tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Huskies to a 3-1 victory over Boston University. Aurard extended her point streak to eight games (10g, 6a) and leads Hockey East in conference scoring with 12 goals on the season.
