BOSTON, Mass. - The UConn men's hockey team dominated Northeastern University Saturday evening to sweep the weekend series. Ethan Whitcomb scored two goals, while three defensemen found the back of the net.

The Huskies were able to jump out to the early 1-0 lead as Viking Gustafsson Nyberg notched his first goal in a UConn uniform as he crashed the net for the rebound off the John Spetz shot. Later in the first period, UConn was able to double their lead as Ethan Whitcomb and Ethan Gardula connected on a give-and-go which ended with Whitcomb firing the puck top right corner for the goal. Following a UConn penalty, Northeastern's power play went to work and were able to cut the lead to one as Joaquim Lemay fired the puck through traffic and past Tyler Muszelik for the goal. With time running down in the first period, the Huskies were awarded the man advantage and on the power play defenseman John Spetz scored the goal in front after being denied on his initial shot attempt, to give UConn the two-goal lead heading into the break.

The second period was all UConn as they were able to net two goals to extend their lead to four entering the period break. Nick Carabin started things off for the Huskies in the period as he took a feed from Jake Richard and redirected the puck home being the third UConn defenseman to score in this evenings game, and giving UConn the three goal lead. Later in the second period the Huskies found another as Ethan Whitcomb scored his second of the night off a redirection from a shot by freshman Kai Janviriya. Junior Tyler Muszelik wasn't tested much, making four saves in the period, bringing his game total to seven while allowing just one goal.

The Huskies continued to pour it on in the third period as UConn scored two in the period to make it 7-1. Jake Richard scored UConn's sixth goal of the evening as he picked the top corner of the goal, followed by Kaden Shahan going bar down for UConn's seventh. The Huskies defense continued to shine allowing just the one goal.

The UConn men's hockey team will wrap up the regular season Thursday as they travel to Vermont for a one game matchup against the catamounts. The game is set to begin at 7:30pm and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
