ORONO, Maine - Eight different Black Bears notched a point in Maine's 4-1 win over Holy Cross on Friday night at Alfond Arena, as goaltender Kiia Lahtinen stood tall making 24 saves. With the win, Maine women's ice hockey team has secured a bye into the Hockey East Quarterfinals.
Despite the Crusaders getting on the board first, Maine fought back scoring four unanswered goals, three of which came in the second period.
After being down by one going into the second period, Stephanie Jacob opened the scoring for Maine off a play from Mikayla Boarder and Elise Morphy just twenty seconds into the second frame. Thirteen minutes later Ava Stevenson put Maine ahead. Mira Seregély earned the assist. Junior Danielle Brunette added to the scoring frenzy with a snipe late in the period to widen Maine's lead. Brunette's first goal in a Black Bear sweater was assisted by Adriana van de Leest.
In the final period, Stephanie Jacob struck again off a pass from Mikayla Boarder and Jamie Grinder.
Kiia Lahtinen made 24 saves on 25 shots faced for her third win in her last four starts.
Maine put up 39 shots on goal, opposed to Holy Cross' 25.
