Sophomore netminder Sedona Blair made 40 saves for the Wildcats
New Hampshire, Boston University Skate to 2-2 Draw; Wildcats Earn Extra Point in Shootout

BOSTON, Mass. - Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 40 saves and Alyson Hush (Scarborough, Ontario) scored two goals to lead the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team to Saturday's 2-2 tie against 12th-ranked Boston University at Walter Brown Arena. UNH won the shootout 3-2 when Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) scored in the bottom of the 10th round.

Blair made 14 saves in the first period, nine in the second and 13 more in the third before stopping all four shots in the five-minute overtime. In the shootout, she denied BU in rounds 2-7 and again in Round 9 and Round 10.

Hush scored in the first period to tie the game at 1-1 and struck again in the second period for what proved to be the game-tying goal.

BU goalie Callie Shanahan was credited with 27 saves, including one in OT. Tamara Giaquinto scored both Terriers' goals.

UNH moves to 15-15-2 overall and 11-13-1 in Hockey East while BU is now 21-9-2, 18-5-2.

- UNH returns to action Feb. 21 (6 p.m.) at Boston College.

FIRST PERIOD

- BU generated a 16-12 shot advantage to take a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes.

- Giaquinto gave the home team a 1-0 lead at 10:02.

- Hush leveled the score, 1-1, at 12:04 when she advanced around a pair of defenders in the neutral zone, skated down the slot and pulled the puck to her forehand to tuck a shot inside the left post. Callista Printz (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Lucie Legro (Brentwood, N.H.) were credited with the assists.

- Giaquinto put the Terriers back on top, 2-1, at 18:18.


SECOND PERIOD

- UNH recorded a 10-9 shot advantage and scored the only goal of the second stanza.

- Hush initiated and finished the power-play scoring sequence that tied the game, 2-2, at 14:39. She kept the puck in the offensive zone at the high slot and slipped a pass to Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) at the right point. Verrier's shot from the circle was knocked down by Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) at the right doorstep. With the puck lying in the crease, Hush tucked a low shot between Shanahan's legs.


THIRD PERIOD

- BU recorded a 13-6 shot advantage in the scoreless third period.


OVERTIME

- Possession was even in the five-minute extra session as the Terriers recorded a 4-1 shot advantage.

- Blair denied Lindsay Bochna and Christina Vote in the final minute to send the game into a shootout.


SHOOTOUT

- Lilli Welcke scored in the top of Round 1 but Julia Cabral (Lee, N.H.) matched that in the bottom of the round when she skated across the crease and tucked a shot inside the right post.

- The team remained tied 1-1 through the best-of-5 shootout to advance to single-round elimination.

- Neither team scored in Round 6 or 7,

- Liv Haag gave the Terriers a 2-1 lead in Round 8, but Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) extended the game when she ripped a shot inside the left post.

- Blair denied Clara Yuhn in the ninth round and Bochna in Round 10.

- Leonard skated through the left circle and snapped a shot between Callahan's legs to end the game.


UNH NOTEBOOK

- Hush tied her career highs of two goals and two points established earlier this season against Assumption on Oct. 4

- With three goals this weekend, Hush climbed to second on the team leaderboard in goals with 10.
