BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Quentin Sigurdson recorded his first career shutout and freshman Joe Connor tallied two goals as to the Northeastern men's hockey team upset No. 13 UMass Lowell, 2-0, on Friday night at Matthews Arena.
- At the 5:24 mark in the opening period, freshman Joe Connor gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead. To collect his first career point, goaltender Quentin Sigurdson passed the puck off to junior Joaquim Lemay in front of the net. Lemay quickly connected with Connor along the boards who went coast-to-coast and buried his own rebound for his fifth tally of the year.
- As Northeastern carried the lead into the second period, UMass Lowell was called for a tripping penalty that earned NU a penalty shot. Taking the shot for NU, Connor came wide right against the Lowell netminder before shifting left on his forehand and burying the puck top corner for his second of the night.
- Despite the River Hawks pulling their goalie for the man advantage in the final 2:36 of the game, the Huskies held on for the 2-0 victory.
- Sigurdson finished the net with 34 saves and one assist in 60 minutes of action. Sigurdson in the third Northeastern goalie in the last four years to record a shutout in his first collegiate start, following Cameron Whitehead and Devon Levi.
- Sophomore Dylan Hryckowian lead both teams with seven shots and junior Jackson Dorrington led the Huskies with five blocks.
The Huskies will close out their weekend series with the River Hawks tomorrow night (Feb. 15) at Tsongas Center at 6:05 p.m.
