DURHAM, N.H. - No. 1 Boston College men's ice hockey scored three unanswered goals in the third period in its 4-2 victory over New Hampshire on Friday evening at the Whittemore Center. The Eagles improved to 21-4-1 overall and 13-3-1 in Hockey East with their ninth-straight win. The Wildcats drop to 11-11-3 overall with a 3-10-2 league record.
Gabe Perreault, Will Vote, Gentry Shamburger, and Mike Posma each lit the lamp for the Eagles, while Jacob Fowler made 19 saves to earn the win.
The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes as neither team was able to find the breakthrough. Boston College held a 10-6 shots advantage in the frame along with one power play that the Wildcats killed off.
The Eagles nearly found the breakthrough early in the second period on the power play as a shot from Ryan Leonard hit off the pipe. BC had a 5v3 advantage for nearly 50 seconds during the middle of the period, but UNH goaltender Jared Whale turned away the attempts to keep it scoreless.
After UNH opened the scoring just after the midway point of the second period, Boston College tied the game when Perreault scored a short-handed goal. Lukas Gustafsson made the long stretch pass to Perreault, who skated in alone at goal and slotted his shot to the bottom right corner to even the score.
The Wildcats took back the lead just two minutes into the final frame, but the lead only lasted 21 seconds as the Eagles tied things up once again. After winning the faceoff, Vote followed up on the rebound off a shot from Gustafsson, smashing home the equalizer.
Boston College took its first lead of the night minutes later when Shamburger capitalized off a mistake from Whale to tap home the shot from close range. The BC lead doubled later in the period when Posma followed up on a saved shot. Aram Minnetian ripped a shot through traffic that was saved, but Posma pounced on the loose puck and was able to knock it in.
The Wildcats pulled the goaltender in the final few minutes, but the BC defense thwarted their efforts with three blocked shots and two saves from Fowler.
