Box Score - Highlights

BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team (17-8-1, 14-4-1 HE) posted a 3-2 win over No. 12.13 Boston College (17-9-1, 13-6-1 HE) on Friday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

BC got on the board early in the opening frame, but BU responded to tie things up 1-1 headed into the first intermission. The Terriers took a 2-1 lead in the second period which it held until 3:40 into the third when the Eagles scored an equalizer. BU continued to put pressure on the BC end of the ice which paid off when a loose puck in the BC crease was tapped in by junior Riley Walsh to propel BU to a 3-2 lead. The Eagles pulled their netminder with under a minute to play, but the Terriers defended well to hold on for the win.

Junior Lilli Welcke, freshman Kaileigh Quigg and Walsh all scored in the win. Senior Maggie Hanzel, graduate student Tamara Giaquinto and junior Luisa Welcke logged assists. Sophomore Mari Pietersen made her third consecutive start in net, recording 24 saves.

With the win, the Terriers went 2-1-0 in the series with the Eagles this season. This marks the first time since the 2019-20 season that BU bested the Eagles in back-to-back meetings

HOW IT HAPPENED

- BC attempted to clear the puck out of its zone, but Li. Welcke stole the puck at the blue line and took it to the net to score, unassisted, at the 12:53 mark to tie the game 1-1.

- Early in the second frame, BU went to the box for tripping and BC went to the box for slashing.

- Hanzel dodged multiple BC defenders and sent a backhanded pass to Quigg, who scored during the 4-on-4 play to put BU up 2-1.

- BU went on the power play again with 10:29 to go in the stanza due to a hooking call on the Eagles. Nothing came of the extra skater advantage.

- The Eagles were called for interference and, six seconds into the power play, BU went to the box for hooking.

- Neither team found the back of the net through the penalties as BU held a 2-1 lead at the end of the second.

- The Eagles evened the score 3:40 into the third frame.

- Lu. Welcke sent a pass to Giaquinto, whose shot was initially saved but made its way past Campbell, allowing Walsh to tap the puck into the net from the crease at the 10:40 mark.

- With 3:37 to go in the third, BU and BC went to the box for roughing as 4-on-4 play ensued.

- No one scored during the third 4-on-4 play situation of the night.
