BOSTON - The No. 15 Boston University women's ice hockey team (16-8-1, 13-4-1 HE) swept the series against Holy Cross (7-15-3, 3-13-3 HE) with a 3-0 shutout in the grand reopening of Walter Brown Arena on Saturday evening. Sophomore goaltender Mari Pietersen recorded her second shutout of the weekend and of her career, making 15 saves in between the posts.
The Terriers got to work early by scoring two goals in the opening 20 minutes, the first of which coming on the power play. BU continued to dominate through the second and added another power-play goal to secure a 3-0 lead. The Terriers kept Holy Cross at bay through the third frame to hold on for their second consecutive shutout.
Graduate students Tamara Giaquinto and Lindsay Bochna scored on the power play while junior Clara Yuhn scored BU's second goal. Seniors Christina Vote and Maggie Hanzel, Giaquinto, junior Sydney Healey, sophomore Alex Law and freshman Keira Healey all tallied assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Play was back and forth through most of the period until Holy Cross was called for interference.
- K. Healey collected the puck off a wide shot and passed to Hanzel, who set up Giaquinto for her sixth power play goal of the season.
- Shortly thereafter, Giaquinto and Law set up Yuhn in the slot as she lifted BU to a 2-0 lead 17:32 into the first.
- BU went on the penalty kill 1:39 into the second and was successful.
- The Terriers had their turn on the power play when Holy Cross was called for holding, but the Terriers went to the box for body checking 55 seconds in.
- BU then killed off the 1:05 remaining on Holy Cross' power play.
- At the 10:15 mark, Holy Cross was called for high sticking.
- BU capitalized on the situation when S. Healey and Vote found Bochna in the left circle, who scored BU's third and final goal of the game.
- The Terriers went on the penalty kill at the 12:25, followed by one Terrier and Crusader going to the box for roughing 15 seconds later.
- Right after BU successfully killed the penalty, it went back to the box for slashing.
- The Terriers also killed off that penalty.
- BU went on the power play at the end of the frame thanks to a Holy Cross body checking call, but nothing came of the extra skater advantage.
- The third period was quiet until BU was called for interference at 11:58.
- Holy Cross was on the power play for 55 seconds before being called for too many skaters on the ice.
- BU went on the power play following 4-on-4 play, but there was no change in score.
