BURLINGTON, Vt. - The No. 14 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the Vermont Catamounts, 1-0 on Saturday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Huskies move to 14-3-2 in Hockey East play and 16-8-2 overall this season.
Senior goaltender Megan Warrener made her tenth start of the season in between the pipes for the Huskies. Warrener made 20 saves, earning her second shutout of the season.
UConn jumped out to an early lead off the stick of freshman forward Claire Murdoch just five minutes into the game. Murdoch scored her team high eleventh goal of the season, giving her 20 points in her rookie season.
UConn went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead and held a lot of puck time in the offensive zone in the first period, outshooting Vermont 11-5.
UConn preserved their one goal lead through the second period, as the Catamounts led in shots 9-8 in the second frame.
The Huskies continued to thwart the Vermont attack, earning their fifth shutout of the season. Warrener made six saves in the third period.
