Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The second-ranked Boston College men's hockey team completed its weekend, and season, sweep over No. 6 Providence with a 4-1 victory on Saturday evening at Schneider Arena. Gabe Perreault, Jake Sondreal, Ryan Leonard, and Teddy Stiga each scored a goal for the Eagles.

BC improves to 16-4-1 overall and 9-3-1 in league play, while Providence drops to 15-5-2 overall and 5-4-2 in Hockey East.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead through Perreault. Teddy Stiga forced the turnover in the BC defensive zone and passed the puck up along the boards to James Hagens in the neutral zone. As Hagens made his way into the offensive zone, he laid off a nice pass across for Perreault, who made no mistake with his shot and tucked it inside the right post to put Boston College in front 1-0.

BC doubled the lead just minutes into the middle frame as Aram Minnetian picked up the loose puck and threw it towards the goal where Sondreal was in the perfect position to redirect it into the back of the net to make it 2-0 in favor of the Eagles.

The Friars cut into the deficit with a power play late in the second period, scoring on the ensuing faceoff after the penalty was called.

The Eagles pushed the lead back to two with a power play goal of their own midway through the final period. Lukas Gustafsson took a shot from the point through traffic in front of goal and Leonard redirected it past the Providence goaltender to make it a 3-1 game.

BC added the insurance goal later in the third period when the Eagles capitalized on a Providence turnover in their own defensive zone, allowing J. Hagens, Perreault, and Stiga to combine for another goal, this time with Stiga putting the puck into the back of the net.

Jacob Fowler made 30 saves, while Providence goaltender Philip Svedebäck made 20 stops.
