BURLINGTON, Vt. - In a two-point effort, captain Jack Williams scored the game winner in overtime to give the Northeastern men's hockey team a 2-1 victory over Vermont on Friday night.
- The contest remained scoreless through 40 minutes of action with Northeastern leading Vermont in shots, 21-15.
- At the 10:25 mark in the third period, NU earned their final man advantage of the night. Junior Jack Williams, from the point, hit senior Cristophe Tellier as he skated into the right faceoff dot. Tellier made a quick turn to find junior Nick Rhéaume posted on the back doorstep for his second tally of the year.
- Vermont, after pulling their goaltender, tied the game 1-1 with 1:38 left in regulation to force overtime.
- With 1:59 off the clock in extra time, junior Vinny Borgesi carried the puck across the blueline and dropped it back for Williams who walked past his defender into the slot for his tenth goal of the season. Freshman Joe Connor was credited with the secondary helper.
- In his eighth win, sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead tallied 27 saves in 62 minutes of action.
- Graduate student Jake Boltmann led both teams with a season-high six blocks and sophomore Dylan Hryckowian carried the Huskies with five shots.
The Huskies will close out their weekend series with Vermont tomorrow night (Jan. 18) at 6:00 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
