Box Score - Highlights

BOSTON - Junior Quinn Hutson scored a pair of goals and classmate Ryan Greene had a four-point night to lift the No. 15/13 Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Vermont in the opener of a weekend series on Friday evening at Agganis Arena.

Greene opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the game and added three assists. Sophomore Jack Harvey notched a goal and two assists to complete a career-best three-point night and senior Matt Copponi had a pair of helpers. Senior Jack Hughes and junior Devin Kaplan each potted a goal while sophomores Tom Willander and Shane Lachance joined freshmen Kamil Bednarik and Cole Hutson with one assist apiece.

Senior Mathieu Caron stopped the first 21 shots he faced while his teammates built a 6-0 lead before UVM ended the shutout bid at 7:49 of the third. Caron finished with 27 saves for the Terriers, who improved to 10-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in Hockey East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Greene scored from an improbable angle just 7:05 into the proceedings. With the puck behind the UVM net, he threw the puck towards the goal and it caromed off of Axel Mangbo's pads and into the back of the net.

- Caron stopped a breakaway chance moments later to keep the Terriers in front.

- Hutson's first goal of the night came just 3:06 later right after a BU power play expired. Greene forced a turnover off the forecheck and dished it to Hutson, who patiently waited for a Catamount defender to dive past him before firing the puck into the back of the net.

- He then pushed the lead to 3-0 on a power play in the final seconds of the frame with a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Mangbo high to the glove side.

- Harvey extended the lead to 4-0 just 25 seconds into the middle stanza with a highlight-reel goal. Greene gained the UVM zone and dropped a no-look pass to Harvey in the left circle. Harvey, with his back to the goal, needed just one touch to backhand the puck inside the far post for his fourth goal of the campaign.

- Caron made one of his best saves of the night a few minutes later, denying UVM's leading goal scorer, Colin Kessler, on a breakaway bid.

- Kaplan pushed the lead to 5-0 with his fourth goal of the season at 15:32 of the second period. Bednarik won an offensive-zone faceoff to Lachance, who quickly dished it back to Kaplan for a one-timer that whistled past Mangbo.

- Hughes notched his first goal of the year on a power-play chance just 1:21 into the third period. Cole Hutson made a terrific diagonal pass to Hughes at the right post for the finish.

- Vermont scored its only goal at the 7:49 mark of the final frame.
