PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's hockey team defeated Holy Cross, 4-1 on Friday, Jan. 10, at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 10-8-3 overall record and a 6-6-2 mark in Hockey East play. The Crusaders dropped to 7-12-1 overall and 3-10-1 in Hockey East. Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas) added a goal and an assist to secure the win.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

-The Crusaders opened the scoring 3:54 into the contest with an unassisted goal from Reghan Chadwick off a Providence turnover.

-1:21 later, Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) skated from the Friars' defensive zone and put one past Abby Hornung to equal the score at one. Mégane Quirion (Saint-Eustache, Quebec) and Hannah Clarke (Richmond Hill, Ontario) picked up the assists.

-Neither team scored the rest of the period, but the Friars controlled the play, outshooting Holy Cross, 12-6.

-After Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas) caused a turnover in the offensive zone, Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) finished a feed from Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) to give the Friars their first lead of the night, 2-1. The goal marked Kirchmair's 10th of the season. She became the second Providence player to reach 10 tallies this season. Kirchmair is now tied for the team lead in goals with Knapp.

-With the assist on the second goal, Knapp extended her point streak to six consecutive games. It marks a career-high and team-high this season.

-With the 1-0 advantage in the second period tonight, Providence has outscored its opponents, 28-14, in the second period this season.

-Providence is now 6-1-1 when leading after 40 minutes.

-The teams skated through most of the third period with no goals until Martinson scored the insurance goal to extend the Providence lead to 3-1. Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) and Millie Sirum (Oslo, Norway) were credited with the assists.

-Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 20 saves for the Friars tonight.

-This is the first three-game winning streak for the Friars this season.
