West Point, NY.-- The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team scored in all three periods and opened 2025 with a convincing 5-2 win against the Army West Point Black Knights on Friday night at Tate Rink.
Merrimack (6-10-1, 3-5-1): 5, Army West Point (5-14-0, 5-7-0): 2
Merrimack jumped out to an early lead as Zach Bookman's shot would find a way through the screen of Antonio Venuto only three and a half minutes in. Army would tie and take the lead shortly after but Ty Daneault would score his second in as many games to get the Warriors back on level terms at 14:29 of the first. Ivan Zivlak netted one that put the Warriors ahead in the final minute to close a topsy-turvy opening 20 minutes.
In the second, Merrimack would find the lone breakthrough as Michael Emerson fired in his own rebound just under five minutes into the period.
With twenty minutes to play, Merrimack hunted for their fifth of the night and eventually earned it after they had two reviews for potential goals not go their way but Antonio Venuto put the game out of sight with an empty net goal with two minutes to play in the contest.
Notes and Numbers:
- The Warriors had five different goalscorers as Zach Bookman, Ty Daneault, Ivan Zivlak, Michael Emerson and Antonio Venuto all had a goal each.
- Zach Bookman also added two assists for a three point game.
- Michael Emerson, Seamus Powell, Harrison Roy, Nick Pierre, Josef Mysak, and Caelan Fitzpatrick all had assists.
- Jordan Hughesman and Nathan King picked up their first points as Warriors in the win.
- Max Lundgren won his fourth game of the season, making 21 saves.
