Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Quinn Hutson and freshman Alex Zetterberg each tallied two goals and one assist, but the Boston University men's ice hockey team fell at Yale, 7-5, on Sunday at Ingalls Rink.

BU (9-7-1) held a 3-2 lead over Yale (3-7-1) after the first period, but the Bulldogs took a 5-4 lead in the second stanza before scoring twice more in the third period.

Zetterberg briefly tied the game at 5-5 late in the second before Yale won a challenge for a major penalty on a play well before the goal, which canceled out Zetterberg's strike. Junior Ryan Greene also recorded one goal and one assist while freshman Sascha Boumedienne collected a career-best two assists. Sophomores Aiden Celebrini, Gavin McCarthy and Shane Lachance all had one assist apiece, as did seniors Jack Hughes and Matt Copponi.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Hutson got BU on the board just 1:01 into the contest. Engum intercepted an outlet pass at his own blue line and moved it ahead to Hughes, who one-touched it to Zetterberg. With Hutson outworking his defender to get ahead of him at the Yale blue line, Zetterberg gained the zone and dished it to his left to Hutson up the middle. Hutson gathered the puck with one hand, then quickly moved it from backhand to forehand before beating Jack Stark from in close.

- Yale answered at the 5:13 mark, but Zetterberg restored the Terriers' lead with 13:00 on the clock. McCarthy moved the puck to Hutson at the right circle before Hutson zipped a pass to Zetterberg at the right post. Zetterberg one-timed it past Stark.

- David Chen scored a power-play goal just 1:26 later to even the score at 2-2.

- Greene scored a power-play goal of his own to give BU a 3-2 advantage with 1:35 remaining in the opening period. Copponi dangled through a couple defenders before dishing the puck to Greene for a goal at the right post.

- Yale once again answered at 2:54 of the second before notching a shorthanded goal at 4:06 to take its first lead of the game at 5-4.

- Zetteberg thought he evened the score with 1:47 to play in the second, but the referees reviewed a play 58 seconds prior to the goal and deemed that a major penalty occurred, negating the goal.

- BU killed the major and pressed for an equalizer throughout the third period, but Yale scored twice more to put the game out of reach.

- The Terriers pulled their goalie for an extra skater late in the frame and Zetterberg found the back of the net with 34.8 seconds remaining to create the 7-5 final.
