BELFAST, Northern Ireland - The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team were tied after 40 minutes but the Harvard Crimson scored twice in the third period to pick up the win in the Friendship Four third place game on Saturday.
Merrimack (3-9-1, 2-5-1 HEA): 2, Harvard (3-4-1, 2-2-1 ECAC): 4
Harvard was able to get on the board first at 12:37 of the opening period, but David Sacco tied the game two and a half minutes later as his long toss from the line would take a deflection into the net for the goal.
In the second, the Crimson re-established the lead just past the halfway mark of the game. Sacco would come through again scoring on a rebound for his third goal in the Friendship Four tournament as the game remained tied at two apiece going into the final period.
In the third, Harvard struck quickly, scoring in the first 20 seconds of the period and they would score their fourth and final goal at 8:57 of the frame.
Notes and Numbers:
- David Sacco scored twice, and was named Merrimack's player of the game for the second consecutive game.
- Ivan Zivlak and Ryan O'Connell picked up an assist each.
- Max Lundgren made 28 saves.
