ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team battled the #1 Wisconsin Badgers on Friday night at Alfond Arena, falling 9-0.
Wisconsin found the momentum right away, tallying four goals in the first frame.
The second period came with three more goals from the Badgers, even though the Black Bears matched their chances, putting up 14 shots on goal. Kiia Lahtinen made 24 saves on 31 shots faced in the first two periods.
Maine held the Badgers to two goals in the final period, as freshman goaltender Madisyn Ryan saw her first career minutes, making 13 saves on 15 shots faced.
Mikayla Boarder led the Black Bears with four shots on goal. The shots ended 46-24 in favor of Wisconsin.
The Black Bears face #1 Wisconsin again on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Alfond Arena.
