FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The No. 14 ranked UConn women's hockey team lost the Yale Bulldogs, 3-1 in the opening round of the Nutmeg Classic on Friday night.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan was outstanding in between the posts making a season high 35 saves.
Junior forward Kyla Josifovic scored the game's first goal midway through the first period on the power play, the Huskies seventh power play goal of the season. Josifovic records her fourth goal of the season, tying her season high from last year.
UConn went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead as shots favored Yale 15-4 in the first period.
Yale tied the game at one midway through the second period on the power play as Mariya Rauf scored her third goal of the season.
The game remained knotted at one going into the third period with shots favoring Yale 22-10 in the second period.
Yale's Carina DiAntonio scored the game winner with 1:37 remaining in regulation. DiAntonio later iced the game with an empty netter with 30 seconds left, making it 3-1.
