BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team downed the Vermont Catamounts 3 to 1 on Sunday at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Freshman netminder Kiia Lahtinen backstopped the Black Bears with 22 saves on 23 shots faced. Three different goal scorers contributed to the win, with Alyssa Wruble leading Maine with two assists.

Vermont struck first on a powerplay opportunity, but the Black Bears put up three unanswered goals, one goal per period, to take home the victory. Elise Morphy opened up the scoring for Maine on a powerplay one-timer from Alyssa Wruble and Sam Morrison in the first period.

Adriana van de Leest scored the game-winning goal, her first of the season, on a two-on-one play with Alyssa Wruble. Lily Fetch also picked up an assist on the game-winner.

The third period came with major momentum from Maine, as Mikayla Boarder went end-to-end for the team's third goal of the game.
