TROY, N.Y. - The Merrimack Women's Hockey Team scored late, but were unable to defeat the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers, falling by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
Merrimack (4-9-1, 2-6-1): 1, RPI (8-6-2, 2-3-1 ECAC): 2
The Engineers scored the opening goal at 8:40 of the first period. Margaux would make the 12 other saves in the first and five in the second to keep the difference at one goal but RPI would double the lead midway through the third period.
Merrimack would gain a lifeline in the final minute as Hayley Chang's effort was deflected home by Maria Lindberg in the final 20 seconds and despite winning a late offensive zone faceoff, the Engineers would win the draw and the game.
Notes and Numbers:
- Maria Lindberg scored her seventh goal of the season, extending her team lead.
- Hayley Chang had her second assist in as many games, tying for the team lead in the category.
- Margaux Favre made 25 saves.
