TROY, N.Y. - Freshman defender Abby Poitras scored twice but her effort wasn't enough to knockoff the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers, as the Merrimack's Women's Ice Hockey team fell by a score of 3-2 on Friday night.

Merrimack (4-8-1, 2-6-1): 2, RPI (7-6-2, 2-3-1 ECAC): 3

The Engineers took the lead, scoring the game's opening goal at 5:38 of the first period. The Warriors found the tying goal three minutes later as the puck pinballed to Abby Poitras whose quick shot went bar and in to tie the game at one. RPI would retake the lead with a goal in the final five minutes to go into the intermission up 2-1.

In the second period, the Engineers doubled their advantage right before the halfway point of the contest, but Merrimack put the deficit back to one as Maria Lindberg picked out a wide open Poitras, who wired the shot in for her second goal of the game in the final minute of the frame.

In the third, Calli Hogarth would make six saves to keep the difference at one goal but Merrimack was unable to tie the score as RPI held on for the win.


Notes and Numbers:

- Abby Poitras scored her first two Merrimack goals in the loss.

- Hayley Chang, Tara Blackburn, Gabi Jones and Maria Lindberg all had one assist each.

- Calli Hogarth made 17 saves.
