NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The No. 13/14 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the Merrimack Warriors, 3-2 on Friday night at Lawler Arena. UConn improves to 6-2 in Hockey East and 7-6 overall this season.

Merrimack opened the scoring early in the first period off the stick of Maria Lindberg, putting the Warriors up 1-0.

UConn responded quickly, scoring an equalizer 64 seconds after Merrimack's goal. Sophomore forward Ashley Allard scored her third goal of the season to tie the game at one.

The Huskies took the lead with 4:18 left in the first period, as Maya Serdachny netted her second goal of the season off a great pass from Allard in front of net.

UConn went into the first intermission leading 2-1, with shots in favor of the Huskies, 13-6.

Senior forward Jada Habisch scored a shorthanded goal in the second period, her third of the season, putting the Huskies up 3-1. This is UConn's second shorthanded goal of the season.

UConn went into the second intermission with a two goal lead, shots favoring the Huskies 19-10 in the second period.

Merrimack trimmed into UConn's lead with nine minutes left in the third period as Lindberg tallied her second goal of the game, making it 3-2.

UConn goaltender Megan Warrener shut the door on Merrimack, making three big saves in the final minutes. Warrener finished with 21 saves in the game.
