BOSTON, Mass. - The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team overturned a three goal deficit in the second period but were unable to complete the comeback as Stonehill took the win in overtime for the second time this season, as the Warriors fell by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Merrimack (3-6-1, 2-3-1): 3, Stonehill (4-7-0): 4
Stonehill opened the scoring seven minutes into the game and would double the lead on the powerplay less than two minutes later and despite a late charge they'd carry that lead into the intermission.
Stonehill added their third two minutes into the second period, but the Warriors battled back at the eight minute mark, as Caelan Fitzpatrick made it two goals in two games to get Merrimack on the board. Theresa Warrior captain, Antonio Venuto would score just 56 seconds later to quickly make it a one goal game. Tyler Young's tally got the game back on level terms heading into the third period as he would score on his own rebound.
After a scoreless third period, these teams entered overtime, where the Skyhawks would once again get the better of Merrimack in the extra frame, scoring at 3:11 of the period.
Notes and Numbers:
- Caelan Fitpatrick and Tyler Young scored their second in as many games in the loss, Antonio Venuto had the other, his second in three games.
- Josef Mysak had two assists.
