NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team snapped a four game winless streak with a complete game effort as they rolled past the University of Connecticut Huskies by a score of 4-1 on Friday night at Lawler Arena.
Merrimack (2-5-1, 1-3-1): 4, Connecticut (5-4-1, 2-3-1): 1
After a fast paced scoreless first period, Merrimack was able to jump ahead in the second as Antonio Venuto took the pass from Caden Cranston and put it top shelf. After a successful penalty kill where Max Lundgren made three strong stops, the Huskies would break through on their second chance, scoring at 15:16 of the period.
In the third, the Warriors had a little puck luck go their way as a deflection off the linesman sprung David Sacco on a breakaway that he would convert on at 2:36 of the frame. The Warriors added the insurance goal that they needed at 11:29 of the period as Ethan Bono scored on his back hand from in close. Bono finished the contest with his second of the game, an empty netter with two minutes to go.
