NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The No. 15 Boston University women's ice hockey team (9-3-0, 7-1-0 HE) won its eighth game in a row with a 5-1 result over Merrimack (4-5-0, 2-4-0 HE) on Friday evening at Lawler Rink.
The Terriers scored their first three goals in the opening frame from juniors Sydney Healey and Clara Yuhn. Merrimack switched its netminder at the start of the second and Healey scored BU's fourth goal in the third before the Warriors could respond. Merrimack got on the board in the final six minutes of the game, but sophomore Neely Nicholson added one more goal for BU to help secure the 5-1 win.
BU's eighth victory in a row ties its winning streak from the 2013-14 season. Shanahan made 15 saves on the night to help the Terriers continue their streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams skated evenly for nearly half of the opening frame until Merrimack was called for body checking at 8:43.
- BU went on the power play and, 34 seconds in, graduate student Julia Shanuessy and senior Christina Vote's passes made their way to Healey, who scored.
- The Terriers served a penalty right after but were successful on the penalty kill.
- At the 17:02 mark, Yuhn scored from the slot off passes from Vote and graduate student Lindsay Bochna to put BU up 2-0.
- The Terriers tacked on another goal with 47 seconds to go in the frame when Yuhn thanks to a setup fromVote once again.
- Merrimack swapped its goaltender at the start of the second frame.
- The Terriers went on the power play at 10:26 but the Warriors were successful on their defense.
- BU held Merrimack to three shots on goal to end the second still leading 3-0.
- Healey extended BU's lead to 4-0 with a goal 9:05 into the third.
- Both teams served a penalty a few minutes later with a 49-second span of 4-on-4 play but neither scored with the extra skater advantage.
- The Warriors found the back of the net with 5:03 to go for their only goal of the game.
- Junior Riley Walsh gained control of the puck in the BU zone and rushed up the ice with Nicholson, who received the pass and capped off the scoring at the 18:21 mark with BU's fifth and final goal of the night.

- BU was 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
- The Terriers outshot Merrimack 30 to 16.
- BU is now 4-0-0 this season when allowing 19 or fewer shots.

- BU held Merrimack scoreless for a total of 97:54, dating back to the season opener on Oct. 1.
- Nicholson has now scored twice at Merrimack in three career trips to Lawler Rink. Her first collegiate goal was scored at Merrimack on Nov. 3, 2023.
