ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team defeated the University of Vermont Catamounts 5-1 on Friday at Alfond Arena.
Five different goal scorers for the Black Bears lifted the team to victory, as they outshot Vermont 40 to 17.
Lily Fetch tallied Maine's first goal 12 minutes into the game, as she later picked up two assists for a three-point game - the first of her career.
Kendall Sundby found the back of the net on a power-play opportunity for her first career goal in the second period, followed by a goal from Ava Stevenson to put Maine up 3-0. Stevenson also tallied two assists for her first three-point game.
Raegan Wurm and Lila Shea each registered a goal to add to Maine's lead in the third period. Shea also notched an assist on Fetch's goal for a two-point game.
With under ten minutes to play, Vermont snuck a goal past Maine goaltender Kiia Lahtinen. Lahtinen picked up her first career win with 17 saves.
The Black Bears killed off all three penalties and capitalized on one of three power-play opportunities.
Sam Morrison, Elise Morphy, and Mira Seregély each earned an assist in Friday's win.
Maine and Vermont face off again on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. back at Alfond Arena.
