ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The second-ranked Boston College men's hockey team scored in each period en route to a 4-1 non-conference victory over No. 10 St. Cloud State on Friday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Special teams played a key role as the Eagles scored both a power-play goal and a short-handed goal.
BC improves to 4-1-0 while St. Cloud State drops to 6-2-0.
The Eagles opened the scoring late in the first period when Will Vote (Arlington, Mass.) slotted home his fourth goal of the season. Dean Letourneau (Arnprior, Ontario) won the faceoff in the offensive zone before Vote fired his shot into the top corner.
BC extended the lead early in the second period with a power-play goal. Eamon Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) found Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.), who was able to put the puck past St. Cloud goaltender Isak Posch for his third goal of the campaign.
After the Huskies scored to cut into the Boston College lead, the Eagles responded with a short-handed goal late in the second frame. Playing on the penalty kill, Teddy Stiga (Sudbury, Mass.) followed up a shot by Will Skahan (Woodbury, Minn.) and tucked the rebound into the net.
Perreault tallied an empty net goal with just a few minutes remaining to push the lead to three.
Jacob Fowler (Melbourne, Fla.) made 19 saves to earn his fourth win of the season.
