NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team picked up the sweep with another strong effort as they defeated the Lindenwood University Eagles by a score of 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Merrimack (4-3-0, 2-2-0): 4, Lindenwood (0-7-1): 1
Merrimack found two goals in the first period leading off with Chloe Goofers finding the net on the doorstep at 12:47 of the first, and the Warriors would score their second on the powerplay late on as Hayley Chang fired in her second goal in two games to take the two goal lead into the room.
In the second period, Madison Cardaci would extend the lead taking the pass off the wall from Abby Poitras and she would squeeze the shot through the Lions goaltender to make the score 3-0 for the only goal of the period.
In the third, Lindenwood would snap the shutout, but the Warriors would score the games final goal late on as Maria Lindberg fired the puck in for her second goal of the weekend as well to put the finishing touches on the contest.
Notes and Numbers:
- Margaux Favre made a career high 37 saves to earn the win and first star honors
- Maria Lindberg, Hayley Chang, Chloe Goofers and Madison Cardaci all scored for the Warriors.
- Sage Babey had two assists, and Lindberg, Raice Szott, Abby Poitras, Alex Ferguson and Solveig Gisler all had an assist each.
- Ashlyn Kroes blocked five shots for the team lead in the game.
