SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team (6-3-0, 4-1-0 HE) swept the weekend series at Syracuse (2-7-0, 0-0-0 AHA) with a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.

After a scoreless first frame, BU found the back of the net late in the second before Syracuse tied things up 19 seconds before the end of the stanza. BU was not fazed by the tie as it took back the lead 3:52 into the final period. The Terriers added another to go up 3-1 before Syracuse scored its second of the game. The Orange pulled their goalkeeper with about two minutes to go, but BU successfully defended the extra skater to hold on for the 3-2 win.

Juniors Sydney Healey and Riley Walsh and freshman Lola Reid all scored in the win. Sophomore Mari Pietersen made 16 saves between the posts to help BU to its sixth win of the season.


HOW IT HAPPENED

- The first period saw BU in the box twice and Syracuse in the box once but the game remained scoreless by the close of the frame.

- BU went on the penalty kill early in the second frame and was successful.

- The Terriers continued to put pressure on the Orange end of the ice through most of the second.

- At the 15:14 mark, Syracuse was called for interference and the Terriers went on their first power play of the game.

- Junior Clara Yuhn's faceoff win deflected off graduate student Lindsay Bochna's skate and was collected by senior Christina Vote, who found Healey at the slot as she sent her shot into the back of the net.

- BU held the 1-0 lead until the 19:41 mark when the Orange tied the game on a breakaway chance to end the second.

- The Terriers responded early in the third when a deflection off Yuhn made its way to freshman Kaileigh Quigg, who passed to Walsh at the blue line allowing her to take the puck through the Syracuse zone and score.

- At the 12:35 mark, graduate student Tamara Giaquinto deflected the puck away from Syracuse in the BU zone which freshman Keira Healey recovered before passing to Reid, who scored BU's third and final goal of the game.

- Syracuse responded just over a minute later with its second goal the afternoon.

- The Orange pulled their goalkeeper with 2:05 to go but BU kept them at bay to earn the 3-2 win.


GAME NOTES

- BU outshot Syracuse 33 to 18 and led in shots in each period.

- The Terriers were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and 1-for-2 on the power play.

- BU won 37 of the 60 faceoffs in the game.

- Reid extended her points streak to five games and her goal streak to two.

- Juniors Maeve Carey and Lilli Welcke each blocked two shots.
