HAMDEN, Conn. - The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 10 Quinnipiac, 8-2, on Friday evening at M&T Bank Arena in non-conference action. Sophomore forward Ryan Conmy (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore forward Marty Lavins (Riga, Latvia) each scored for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats fall to 1-1-1 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 2-2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead at 11:02 of the first period when Tyler Borgula stole the puck in the UNH zone and scored on a breakaway.

- Quinnipiac then increased the lead to 2-0 at 13:20 when Jeremy Wilmer fired a shot from the slot to the back of the net for the power play goal.

- At 17:39, Alex Power tipped in a shot by Aaron Bohlinger to make the score 3-0.

- Aaron Schwartz sent a shot from the side of the net past junior goaltender Jared Whale (Calgary, Alberta) at 9:34 of the second period to extend the lead to 4-0. After the goal, senior goalie Rico DiMatteo (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) took the net for the Wildcats, making his UNH debut.

- The Wildcats cut the deficit to 4-1 at 12:03, when Conmy netted his second goal of the season with a shot from the blue line. Sophomore forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.) and senior captain Alex Gagne (Bedford, N.H.) each posted an assist on the goal.

- But just 11 seconds later, the Bobcats made it a 5-1 contest on a breakaway goal by Jack Ricketts.

- At 4:09 of the third period, Schwartz recorded his second goal of the game to give the Bobcats a 6-1 advantage, while Mason Marcellus made the score 7-1 at 9:18.

- Lavins scored his first goal of the season at 9:46 with a shot from the slot make it a 7-2 game. Junior forward Morgan Winters (Osprey, Fla.) and senior defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill, Ranch, Calif.) each tallied an assist on the goal.

- Victor Czerneckianair scored the last goal of the game for the 8-2 final.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
